Dan and Dave at Davenports

Postby stevebo » Feb 1st, '09, 16:45

Hey guys!

Anyone going to Davenports on 25th? Dan and Dave Buck are holding a lecture/workshop that day at 6:30pm. I've bought my ticket :-). It would be nice to know someone there given that I don't really know any magicians since I only treat magic as a hobby.

Here is the link. Tickets are priced at £22.

I've actually never been to Davenports, so this should be cool :-).

Cheers

Steve

I saw the advertisement the other day, thought about it. £22? I don't think so.

"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.

I'm 50/50 on this one. Will it just be D&D showing off impossible and possibly somewhat pointless flourishes? For £22.

Don't get too excited about going to Davenports - IM is better and friendlier in my experience. The Davenports shop is quite big (for a magic shop) but somehow doesn't ever seem to have much in.

The problem with D&D is that they are just TOO GOOD at what they do, if that makes any sense. They've practiced since they were very young and they have mutant huge hands with extra long fingers. Definitely not fair.

Having said that I'm still tempted to go just for the amazement value. And it'll be fun watching them try to keep calm as the Nth person asks them how you do something really basic like a Charlier Cut. A bit like asking Carol Vorderman what's 6 times 9.

The link doesn't work. Are places limited? If you're going to be surrounded by lots of Buckabes (that's a Buck wannabe term that I just made up), then it might not prove very productive. Could be interesting, though, if you can get some quality time with the brothers Buck.

I don't bother going to Davenports anymore because when I call them to ask if they have something in stock and they say "no" (which is about 96.3% of the time), I save myself a wasted journey.

Because I can't make Blackpool :-).

Replicant: The site has been quite overloaded lately. But try going onto the site at different times and hope for the best :-).

According to promotional material, the Davenports workshop will be different from (and, it is suggested, more thorough than) the Blackpool one. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see - presumably it'll be a more intimate affair.
