Hello to all,
My name is Blair Munro from Anchorage, Alaska. I am currently a student working towards a piece of fancy paper recognizing my brilliance in the field of international relations (ruling the world of course). For me magic first rolled in when Don the Magic Man—seedy but delightful token Anchorage-ian performer—came to my second-grade classroom to conquer our little bewildered minds. Consequently, I got a cheap magic kit and proceeded to amaze those around me with my newly obtained skills. (Actually just my parents…bless their patience—cheap baby-blue plastic rings were incessantly clicked about; fuzzy red balls and colored rags were strewn hither and thither, much to my mom’s dismay.) Needless to say, never being very successful, my early magic endeavor was short lived.
Ten years later I was milling through you tube and ran across an obscure performer by the name of Derren Brown. I was hooked. After reading Tricks of the Mind, I learned his funny little suggested card trick and went around performing it with much the same zeal as felt back in days of tooth-fettish-fairies and strange men who sprinkle sand in your eyes (petulant beings!) The popular response to my trick was something like, “Blair. That was stupid.” And once again, I was hooked.
Now, I have nearly reached the ‘Unhealthy Obsession’ stage. I enjoy working with the deck of cards and am currently chipping through the Card College series (unimpressive Volume I status—ha). Also, with my notorious metaphoric dinner etiquette, I initially took much-too-large a bite and started by learning sleights from Derren Brown’s Devil’s Picturebook. (But have since done enough sloppy chewing to where I can now hold myself with dignity.) Aside from cards, I have always had a profound interest in psychology. Since my DB encounters, I have taken it upon myself to read—perhaps more than I should—into clinical “hypnosis” and such. Interesting stuff.
That is me as it relates to this place of magical congregation. I apologize for my endless blabbing (product of my serious drug problem—caffeine. Yeah, and I like writing but rest assured all further posts will be kept short!). Thanks for being an inviting, helpful and most-important, friendly forum site.
Good evening,
Blair Munro
*Personality disclaimer: I have in fact ventured beyond DB.
