You are within your rights to make copies of DVDs, games, etc. as backups for your own use. Just don't pass them on.

As far as software for disk ripping, (Message from Mods: Regrettably we've had complaints in the past about giving out details/links in connection with disc ripping.copying and so on so we have to edit and lock this thread, sorry.)
