I've been meaning do this for a hell of a long time, really I have, but being a grown up gets in the way sometimes. So, just for the sheer joy of having access to all that material, please go to YouTube and seek out the live music that REALLY lights your candles. All your candles, not just a few. Find the live performances that really do it for/with/at you. Maybe it's a tiny little tune that just gets you through, yeah? It doesn't matter as long as it twiddles your own personal dials. Along with the link, post the name, title and the venue (if known). No need to explain why you're posting, and the video quality is completely unimportant, as is the sync. Just remember to make it a live performance. Find merit in the live thing you like the most and be proud of yourself for finding that joy. That's all that matters.

Right. I'll go first, shall I? Here goes. Watch these. They're not in any real order and I hope they're not actually going to be unpleasant:

Penguin Cafe Orchestra, "Music For A Found Harmonium", somewhere nice, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJg1NNyke2E

Talking Heads, "Naive Melody", Stop Making Sense Tour, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQWbaT5uHDE

Freur, "Doot Doot", the Marquee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLsioyQxePc

The Heretic by The Sound of Animals Fighting (Sung in this video by Matthew Kelly from The Autumns)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5ADbCz6obk

(Again The Sound of Animals Fighting because they've only and will only ever perform 4 live shows...)
Act IV: You don't need a witness

Nothing else I can think of that's on youtube...

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Everything has been great so far; the bookmarks are a'twitchin', but I swear that trumpet is actually speaking.

A small jazz offering of my own in return. The beloved immortal Bix Biederbecke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ue9igC7flI "They said his playing sounded like bullets being shot from a bell" - Trevor Chaplin, 'The Beiderbecke Affair'

I tried to find Bessie Smith singing "If You's A Viper" but this was all they had. Nice to see the Bright Young Things (Erin McKeown, in this case) getting the job done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey-nSAqFKRU Keep the beat when they seem not to and she rewards you royally.

A few from me then...

First of the always brilliant Gary Moore performing his powerhouse Parisienne Walkways with Phil Lynot (RIP)

For a prog-metal band, Dream Theater have some soul when they want to. The Spirit Carries On is a beautiful song whether on the CD or from the frankly fantastic Scenes From New York live set. John Petrucci's powerful (but not overly noodly) guitar solo is of particular note.

Mixing Metallica with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra was always going to be a big hit. Getting Michael Kamen to orchestrate was also a clever move. Mix these two with some Lovecraft inspired instrumentals and you get The Call Of Ktulu S+M version.
(Interestingly Metallica went for Ktulu to not infringe on copyrights of HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu whom the piece was inspired by. As it turned out, Ktulu was also a valid spelling of Cthulhu - smooth 8))

I hate Strictly Come Dancing but I love Bette Midler. The Wind Beneath My Wings - she still means it even to this day!

Next the timeless Pink Floyd classic Comfortably Numb. This live version from Glastonbury a few years back is so good it actually hurts. Fact.

Actually I can't top that one so that'll be all for now!

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism
