Magic Hair Do's

Postby TylerMason » Mar 6th, '09, 17:37

Sadly, despite how damm cool we know we all are for being so devilishly tricky & clever - many magicians have fallen foul to the perils of fashion and style. Who can forget the card print tie's, the Copperfield perm, Daryl's shirts, and oh so many mullet sporting stage magicians of the old variety TV days.

So who's had the worst barnet in magic then. Here's a good start from the great Mr Penn (Not David - his hair is pretty cool)....but check out the link to this photo below. God bless the cringe factor from the 80's.

Please feel free to embrace the shame, and upload some of your own embarrasing photo's from the 70's, 80's or early 90's.

It's so true isn't it? Magicians have got to be some of the worst dressed people I know. Perhaps I could set myself up a new business as a magician's stylist.

How refreshing! Here was I thinking that it was just because I'm an old f*rt that I was the only one that thinks that Criss Angel looks like he gets his clothes from the charity shop rejects!

I lost count of the number of mullets at Blackpool. I tried taking photos but lost my bottle. My favourite was the died blonde, steaked & shaven mullet. How can something that's never been in fashion go out of fashion?

True, and that's mainly because most magicians --or wannabes -- are teenagers. And they ARE some of the worst dressed people :!: :!: :!:

I admit to being desperately unfashionable, being the wide (as in fat not as in boy) person I am I find buying fashionable clothes to be difficult, nigh on impossible or highly expensive. (Cue joke about going to Millets and Blacks for tents to use as socks)
As for the hair: I had a ponytail going quite far down my back. I had it chopped so now I have shoulder-length hair which can still be tied up. It is neither fashionable nor unfashionable. I'm kinda proud of being "normal" for at least one part of my real-life avatar...

I believe the point being made here is the cheesy, naff, tasteless type of magician. You know the type. Playing card print tie, flashing bunny or top hat badge/pin, ill-fitting suit that hasn't been dry cleaned and pressed for 5 years, etc etc.

I don't think the issue is that teenagers are doing magic, more that the older magicians have no idea of style. I also imagine your father thought you dressed dreadfully as a teenager. I believe it's a generational thing.

Burger got it right when he said as the magician, you should be the best dressed person in the room.

You'd think so but...here we are.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Some advice on clothes by dini...

1st You dont need to spend a fourtune on one shirt/pair of jeans one pair of shoes.

2nd Contrast in colours light trousers/jeans goes well with a dark top and the other way round. (if you dress all ways in all black people think you are shop staff in certain places.)

3rd Brown shoes go better with blue jeans ratther then black shoes blue jeans.

Find your size and also none of this jeans hanging down showing your boxers , not that any of you do that here. Be Neat.

Also being well dressed/turned out will help your confidence no end.

And last but not least polish your shoes if they are leather and use an Iron. If you dont know who to iron FHMs website shoes you our amongst other places.

I'm sure that's against the Geneva Convention... Also, why exactly are you taking ironing advice from FHM?

Mr. Goat writes, in part: ". . . Playing card print tie, flashing bunny or top hat badge/pin, ill-fitting suit that hasn't been dry cleaned and pressed for 5 years, etc etc. . . ."

Yes, teenagers.

BTW, if Gene Berger said a magician should be the best dressed person in the room, why doesn't he take his own advice?

How else do you get the creases out of your shoes?
