I've not been too committed to practiceing it with both hands recently, I can do it left handed about 75% of the time but it all falls apart if I try to put both hands together!

Hee hee... me too. The main problem with my left hand is I can get everything right, except for arching over to do the weave. They mesh beautifully, but I seem to drop them at the last minute. It's quite good exercise you know, bending down and picking up 52 cards ;)

I drop tham when I remove my index finger from between the piles, I don't have quite as much control over the two packets with my left hand.

:) I'm fine with that part, it's the 'arching' (if you know what I mean) that gives me grief. It just somehow seems that my brain is not quite fully connected to my left hand.

(PS, sorry for going off-thread - should we continue this elsewhere?)

Hey you guys go start your own thread on your blinkin' dovetail shuffles. :) FYI I can do it left foot but not my right, strange.

Actually it could start another thread with regards to being left or right handed? Being a partial lefty I cannot do certain card effects such as Guy Hollingworths Quartet (if you know it you will know what I mean). Hey hey back on to the thread.

You know it really gets my goat when they make tricks that only work for right handed people. Why are Bike cards designed for right handed people I had to learn how to fan the cards as if I was a right handed person. When I do an E.C. (back to that again) I am unable to cover the pips the list goes on.....

How odd - I'd never considered that - but why would I, being and ignorant (and common :() right-hander.

Yes, perhaps a separate thread for 'lefties' - and how certain tricks/effects affect them.

(This sounds like a really pretentious thread, singling out lefties - but it's not meant that way, honest!)

It is quite funny watching me deal cards as a right (normal) handed person. I look like a 3 year old who has absolutely no coordination.

Just for a laugh try doing an E.C. left (apparantly "abnormal") handed.

You're right... I think this is where the phrase 'cack-handed' comes from!
It feels almost impossible, and I see what you mean about the indicies. Also, fanning has to be done the opposite way, I guess, for the same reasons.

And BTW, you're far from abnormal - most famous/noted creative types were left handed. I'd say 'gifted' rather than abnormal...

A couple of years ago I went to San Diego and visited their Seaport Village - an old Tuna Cannery/Fishing Area which has been turned into a shopping village for tourists. Most of the shops are double ended - one shop one end, a different one the other and you can walk right through if you want to. The most memorable one was 'The Magic Shop' (of course!) but the shop attached to it is called 'Southpaw' and deals with all things for, yes you've guessed it, those who use the left rather than the right hand. Both Sinister and Dexterous!

Actually to make matters worse I am not totally left handed.

This does mean that some sleights I do right handed such a coin routines all right handed. Cards are a mix of left and right handed. It does make reading instuctions fun. Also trying to show right handed people how to do stuff is funny.

Outside of magic I am left handed at Writing and believe it or not eating with a spoon. Everything else is right handed. Too much info?

Just realised this isn't the leftie/rightie self help group. bye.

all my sleights are right hand dominent, i havant seen the need to change in all the years i've been practising after all its not seen by the audience so why bother killing yourself useing both hands.

recently i have been classic palming in each hand but i still do coins across with a right hand dominance and have so far never been questioned, i supose thats why you dont get any left handed samuries or ninjas, too much to learn with both hands.
