I am definitely a geek, and I recently took it upon myself to learn Python (having struggled with Java for years).

It is FANTASTIC. The syntax is completely transparent, thanks to attempts to make the code human-readable. The python documentation is amazingly good, and there are so many great tutorials that I managed to teach myself the basics in a few weeks.

I'm actually using python in the psychology lab I work in, and I can't recommend it enough.
