Favorite force method

Postby flaw07 » Mar 15th, '09, 03:43

So all cardies here should know at least a handful of force methods, I was wondering which ones people prefer to use most. I personally favor the casual(or classic) force, but I"m not very good at it so I usually use a riffle force.

Riffle force would be mine. But, if i miss the classic force - i always have a back up trick that i can go into.

Hand-to-hand bottom card force is nice, as are Lennart Green's snap-based forces.

Do please elaborate on why the force you use is your favorite iff you can. I should've said that earlier my mistake.

I usually classic force as I think it is the 'fairest' in appearance but if I absolutely HAVE to know the force will work I use the backslip force. Why? because it is easy, certain to work and rarely seems to raise any suspicion.

Depends on the trick but I like the riffle force and the cut deeper force.

As a mentalist the old X-force has always worked perfectly well for me, but my favourite, because it looks really fair, is the under-handkerchief force. I use the one in SW Mental Magic, but there are a few variations. (Can anyone remind me where I read the version of this using the Charlier Pass? I thought it was in Tarbell but I can't find it.)

Being an out and out cardie, the classic is my force of choice. I extremely rarely have it fail, as anybody who has taken the time to learn it properly would know, and if I do, I just use the Tamariz backup classic force thing.

jhmagic writes, in part: ". . . if i miss the classic force - i always have a back up trick that i can go into. . . . "

That's fine . . . . . IF you don't have a routined act.

But most magicians have (or should have) a structured act.

Most pros, when they absolutely, positively have to force a certain card, will use a one-way deck.

I love the hindu shuffle force, the cross cut force and the riffle force - they're all good in their own ways and all have their own set of circumstances which suit them best.

But I have to say my all time favourite has to be the under the spread cull force. It is totally fair in that they can point to absolutely any card in the deck (with the possible exception of the top 4 or 5, but that's no big deal because if you manage your spectator correctly he won't do that) and you lift it up to show them, and can immediately close the spread and hand them the deck to be shuffled, or whatever.

In terms of practicality and ease, I'd go with the riffle force 9 times out of 10, though.

I try and avoid "pick a card, any card" presentations as much as possible, so I have never bothered to learn the classic force... I can't see a way of presenting the classic force without having to say a derivitive of that cheesy line. With the riffle force at least you can just go "Call stop whenever, jerk-face"

I have no idea! I saw a version him perform a routine where a one handed classic went wrong, and then he explained mentioned it personally when I met him a few years back.

It simply involves them taking a second card, which catches the off guard and will almost 100% take the force card.

From there it's just a magicians choice type move.

If you watch his "Card Silk" video, I think it's on youtube, you'll see it in action.

I just checked that out. What a brilliant way to handle a classic force mishap! It flew by so well, what a master.

Excellent  I'm using that one :)

Riffle force is my force of choice. Seems completely fair with no odd looking moves, and as Queen of Clubs says it's so much better to say "Yell stop" than "Pick a card"
