Global Magic Project

Postby Global Magic Project » Mar 17th, '09, 19:03

The Global Magic Project is currently in production and wants you to be a part of it. We are a Production company who is currently making the worlds biggest magic project that has ever been seen and that will be eventually distributed for the global magic community.
We want to meet magicians from all over the world who have something to share, an amazing trick, or some great thoughts. We will travel with our production team to any country or part of the globe you may be in. Whether it be Sweden, New Zealand, France, New York or Argentina. We currently have some of the more well known magicians in magic signed up, but we are also looking for the undiscovered or less well known magicians who also who have something to share. As we know that the magic community is about more than just the people we have heard of who have DVD's or a TV series.
If you would like a chance to be a part of the Global Magic Project and feel you have something to show the world. Get in touch at: gmagicproject@live.com
We want to hear from you whether you perform close-up, stage, mentalism or something totally out of the ordinary.

Many thanks,
The GMP Team.

And Talk Magic Wants YOU to not spam the site.

Looks like spam to me.

Jake, we have no intention of spamming the sight, we are simply scouting for talent and know that talkmagic is a forum viewed and used by people across the world and see it as a perfect opportunity to find some people who are interested in getting involved.

Magicdiscoman, we are not and nor making out to be a global company. It is just the name of the project. We have no magicians on books as we are not an agent. We simply have approached some performers who have expressed an interest.

I hope this clears up a few issues.

Regards,

GMP team.

you might want to rephrase this statement, over here it suggests you already have magicians on your books.
can i sugest a website for people to see what your after and help them feel more secure with your request for entertainers as just a e-mail could make some people feel like your just after there e-mails for spamming purposes, which you have stated you are not and well played to you for stating that. :D
i'd always be interested in helping new bussines's if my humble skills are of use but i'd like more details on what you expect from your clients and what if any renumeration / compensation you are willing to offer to your clients for there ideas and skills and what fellow entertainers have expressed an interest in your company.
i hope it goes well for you and feel free to contact me via my public e-mail at the bottom of this post if i can be of assistance for consultancy.

Magicdiscoman,
We appreciate your kind words and in response to the on the books quote; by this we mean we have some well known magicians already saying they want to be a part.
In terms of talking about payment etc, I'm sure you will understand that the people who are chosen to go forward with the project won't want what they are getting out of the deal published on a forum. So will be kept discreet and between us and them through E-Mail and phone should they be chosen.
As for the website, in these early stages of planning the project the route to be taken etc we feel there is no need for a website at this current time. However when the filming is complete and it comes to distribution, there will be a website created for people to view content. We are also trying to keep the project for now, under wraps as to not let to much info out when it comes to release.
As I'm sure you will also appreciate, this isn't your usual one trick DVD filmed in a dark hotel room and so great care needs to be taken throughout the project to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Regards,
GMP team.

So can you confirm that anyone taking part will be paid? The reason we raise this point is that other organisations have posted here in the past with broadly similar ideas, usually seeking ideas and input in terms of routines and assistance but the topic of payment has been less than clear. As a professional company you’ll appreciate our need for such reassuring information.

Not all issues. Here's mine again, and it's not going away: how much do you pay?

Here's another: how do you differ from, say, someone approaching BigBlindMedia with a project?

Tomo and Mandrake,
we can confirm that there is payment but it will differ from performer to performer with regards to the amount of input into the DVD. A financial agreement will be reached with each individual as a private matter. If you are interested in taking part, feel free to E-Mail us to talk about what you have to offer.

Many thanks,
GMP team.

It's more a question of what you have to offer and you really need to be a bit more forthcoming in terms of the payment involved. At the moment it sounds very much like you'll be having a great deal of input to produce a DVD which will, presumably, be sold at a profit yet there's a lot of hesitation in giving any details about being rewarded for this input. As I said at the start, we've heard this sort of thing several times before and, so far, none of these projects have materialised so forgive the suspicion but, at the moment, there's really nothing for any of us to work on.

Average fees for a performance by many members here is from £150 to £400 or so - is that the sort of level of payment in this case?

From our viewpoint, you have no web site, you're unknown to us (Google reveals nothing), and all there is as a contact point is this mysterious "team". Can you see why we're suspicious?

I think we need to know publicly:
    What is your name?
    Where are you?
    What's your involvement in magic?
    What facilities do you have?
What other successful DVD projects have you done?
What percentage are you offering contributors?
Do you have a distribution deal?
What volume of units are you hoping to shift?
Why, in short, should someone go to you instead of, say, BigBlindMedia, who have an excellent pedigree?

Is it your team who will film the dvd? What cameras do you use, what editing house will you use? What country are you based?

If you're not so involved with the filming could you give the details of the companies being used? I assume they will have a website & number.

Hello,
Russpie, Mandrake and Tomo.
We understand your queries and will try to best clear them up all up.
We are a group made up of both magicians and people with industry experience working on such shows as GMTV. We are based in London, Wales and America. We will be filming on XL2 cameras and HD hopefully. Editing will be done on either AVID or Final Cut Pro. Payment will be either a percentage or a one off payment for their regular gig fee or more depending on their involvment. Units hoping to be sold is as many as possible, seeing as it is a global project, we would hope globally.
Although we have never carried out a magic DVD project before, we have the relevant experience in all fields to make this work. We are hoping to gain distribution deals with companies world wide and with the right people and ideas on bored this is more than possible.
We are not trying to prevent you or stop you approaching such companies as BigBlindMedia if it is what you want to do. What we feel is companies like that are inundated with offers from magicians to come make a DVD with them but are ignored. We see this as a chance for bundles of magicians worldwide to take part in something, be seen and raise their profile as well as take part in something we hope will go down in history.

Many thanks,
GMP.

In my view GMP seems to have been pretty accommodating in providing the information that has been asked for, despite some of the requests from our members appearing to take a slightly in-hospitable and aggressive tone. :?
