Favorite controll method

Postby flaw07 » Mar 19th, '09, 13:04

I'm looking for some new ways to controll a card. I currently prefer the double undercutt and I know the pass, though not very well and the injog overhand shuffle control. So what is your favourtie card controll and where can I learn it.

I've also been toying with a move to controll a card from bottom to the top of the deck, and so far the only thing I can come up with is a charliegh(sp?) mixed with a pulldown and its kinda wonky so any help with that would be great too.

My own favourite is the riffle force which I learned from RRTCM. I don't quite see what your problem is getting a card from the bottom to the top, an overhand shuffle will achieve this.

It depends alot on what I'm doing to what control I'd use. Most of the time if I want to take a card from the bottom to top or vice versa I'll just use the over hand shuffle.

to controll bottom to top do you just turn the pack over and strip the card off. The idea is discretion. Also I Johnny Wizz Im looking for controlls not forces. Also I just realized I put this thread in Misc instead of Support and Tips. My bad.

And I am still just looking for controls in general. More for my own knowledge than anything.

OH shuffle, or buckle the bottom card keeping a break with left pinkie first, then right thumb while you double undercut taking the bottom card to the top.

The double undercut is amazing, but only if your breaks are good. If they can see a gap, the illusion is ruined.

I use a few controls other than the above, mainly, the side steal, convincing control and as of late, the cascade control.

Side steal is awesome. I've been playing around with kicking the card out as per a side steal and the performing Mike's Move as per Devil's Picture Book. It's a great way to get a card from the centre to the bottom without anyone suspecting anything! Pass is handy but I have to scream misdirection when I use mine. Double under cut and cuts in general all work well!

As an aside, anyone else do Mike's Move from a side steal?

I do Ken Krenzel's One Card Middle Pass, which Mike pretty much ripped off completely, making the use of the Mike's move name personally annoying, but otherwise, no

Did he rip it off or was he unaware of Ken Krenzel's move? We can't all be expected to know every move and who created it.

I find Mike's move (or whatever) a bit angly - the diagonal palm shift is much better in my opinion. Takes a fair old lot of work though.

Sorry, I don't quite know how I misread this.

Can someone point me to the best learning medium for the side steal please?

my own birdog pass, card can go to the top - or the bottom, or the bottom reversed...single card pass that i happened upon by fluke and just developed it...

the hermann is good too - i prefer it to the classic, or a combo of the outjog with a double undercut and a couple of lewis jones sleights too - it just looks like one giant mess up of a shuffle...

David Regal has a control he uses for a single card - it's amazing. I've never seen anyone else use it and it's truly deceptive. I think it was explained in one of his really early videos (before DVDs kids!) and it was by a French magician called Gilles Couture (but Regal called him 'Hank').
Basically the chosen card is replaced in the deck then 'cut deeper into the deck' but is actually brought to the top. The illusion is utterly convincing! This is the control I use all the time. It works with multiple cards and doesn't disturb the lower portion of the deck, which is ideal for stacks or key cards etc.
