Any moment now Lady of Mystery will be coming over to tell us to stop arguing.

I bet she will if she ever notices this thread.

I am pleased to see the use of the word "dolt" used by a Canadian. People over here tell me that they have never heard of the word. It seems that Peter has so either they are wrong or he is an exception.

Of course most Canadians are far too polite to call anyone a dolt in the first place even if they most assuredly are. Peter is very direct for a Canadian. It must be his newspaper background I suppose.

Oh I think it is interesting enough. She will only tell us to behave ourselves and all the fun will be gone.

What are you talking about? That's the best part! You've been out of England too long.

Peter Marucci wrote:Mr.Goat,

Here -- yet again -- is Houdin's quote: ". . .As for Robert-Houdin, what his oft-misquoted piece meant was that a conjuror was not the same as a juggler. His (translated) words are: "A conjuror is not a juggler; he is an actor playing the part of a magician; an artist whose finger have more need to move with deftness than with speed." His much quoted (albeit, wrongly) statement in full is far removed from what those, who would put their own words in his mouth, mean to say. "

Yeah, I read that. What I asked, twice, is for your interpretation of what those words mean.

Sorry I wasn't clear.

Hopefully my post cleared that up a little. I thought that Peter's posts on this matter have been rather obtuse, and perhaps intentionally so. I'm sure that learning a lesson from this gentleman is an experience designed to be character building and, ultimately, educational.

Also, Mark: I apologise. I did not wish to appear to speak for you, which on reflection my earlier post seems to imply.

Finally, Peter: Have an excellent day.

This is all terribly confusing. The rude British here are acting like polite Canadians and polite Canadians are acting like the rude British.
