You could try davenports.

Unfortunately they only do weekends.

Anyone been there?

Or find a magic society that doesn't require an audition to join.

Or google and hope.

You might find that any of the dealers will give you lessons: Alakazam do for instance.

The Merchant of Magic also offer magic tuition but you have to go to their shop in Hampshire. I know you specified London, but I just thought this was worth a mention, just in case. Details below...

Hi Barry, I'm 25. I'm willing to take an audition to join any society. Im 110% focused in being the best I can be. I've been practicing my false cuts and shuffles for 3 months without learning any tricks.

Hi Jimmy

Well, you're clearly not eligible for my first thought, which was the Young Magicians' Club.

As a mere amateur, I'm probably not the best qualified to advise you, but I would say that false shuffles aren't going to get you very far in a magic society audition. You need a routine and presentation skills, as well as "tricks".

I've been watching some of the auditions at the Magic Circle. While many are of a very high standard, some of them have very little in the way of presentation and a string of tricks with poor patter is not going to pass. Perhaps you should widen your reading - I have always felt that books are the best way to learn magic, and you'll find plenty of recommendations, including some of mine, in other threads.

You could perhaps join the London Society of Magicians, which meets in a clubroom at Davenports every other Friday. Try ringing Davenports for details.

EDIT: received and replied to your PM.

There is always the TM London Meet ups (see "great big friendly meet up" thread) which although may not be a teaching class per se but is a good laugh and magic is discussed, shown and techniques workshopped.
This is all between drinks of course.

The next meet up is on Saturday 4th April I believe but feel free to drop a post on the meet up thread

You could always just go to the Davenports club.

I can't believe that a) they are so oversubscribed with members that they can afford to turn away a prospect even if they don't have a routine; b) that they are so self-important that they demand a particularly high level of competence. It's not as though they are the Magic Circle or anything.

Anyone else been to the Davenports club and know what they are like?

If by "Davenports club" you mean the LSM, then you have to audition for full membership, but you can go along as a visitor. They also have an Associate membership, but I don't think Associates are allowed in to lectures. Long time since I've been, though.

As far as their auditions are concerned - no, they aren't The Magic Circle. I passed as a full member many years ago, long before I was ready for TMC.

Exactly. They should be pleased you want to join and therefore help you, rather than throw up specious hurdles.

What was it Groucho said about clubs?

I have to say that even TMC want you to join and the Examinations Secretary will be helpful!
