It's really rather good. The adverts are infrequent and they really do have all kinds of interesting stuff: Joy Division live at The Factory a month before Ian Curtis died, The Chameleons Live at The Academy (I was there!), and lots more interesting fuzzy warbles.

Agreed, Spotify is great stuff, I've been using it for a while now. But I use it more to check out an artist I may have heard of to see if I like their stuff, or listen to a song recommendation

If any non-UK people need an invite (I believe it's still a closed beta in some areas) give me a shout, I have billions of em

I had a glance at the website a few weeks ago, but am not keen on the idea of having to sign up just to see what it's all about.

What precisely does it do? Just play music while you're on the internet?

It's a huge, free-at-the-point-of-use, streaming music library. Absolutely massive.

Hm. Nope, not interesting enough to get me to sign up. Moving on.

Does it need special software?
How much information will it take from me?

I am intrigued but cautious!

Yes

What music you've been listening to

They had a security vulnerability late last year, but nothing big (nothing could be stolen, and they needed your username), but really all they collect is your taste in music. Something you give away for free if you use last.fm :)

I've been using this programme for the last few weeks and I agree it is great for checking out new music before buying but I do keep drawing blanks when searching

They're playing Academy 3 in September. Guess who'll be there? When I saw them at Jilly's Rockworld on Oxford Road a few years ago, I was in the mosh pit down the front bouncing up and down with a big grin on me mush. On the way back to the station, I had a fit of motion sickness and had to rush down an alley to lose my lunch.

Ooooh, a new pleasure! I've just discovered a Ned's Atomic Dustbin anthology. Happy.

I use this all the time, it's fantastic. Especially good when I'm at uni on the netbook and haven't got my whole iTunes library with me.
