Killer Elite Pro - Andrew Nyman (stage trick)

Postby Groovebird » Apr 15th, '09, 12:18

I think most of you are familiar with the Killer Elite trick from andrew Nyman (www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKzQrcQu-yw)

It's actually a real simple trick but the story is so great (if you use it right ofcourse)

The only problem I have with this trick is that the close up environment just isn't the way to go with this trick. Okay, I have to admit the reactions are always pretty good, but I think close up gives to little room to act out the entire bad guy theme.

That's why I made a stage trick out of it. I use A3 posters instead of credit card sized photos. I use a toy gun instead of a poker chip and so on.
This gives me a lot of room to create a real bad guy theme in which they can hold the gun and re-enact the entire crime scene situation.

I performed this a couple of times now, and the reactions are just great.

Are there other magicians that transformed close up effects in real stage effects ?

I believe the original Killer Elite may have been designed for stage performance as it used postcards. Come to think of it, it was probably more suitable for parlour performances rather than stage. Personally, I have no problem with performing Killer Elite Pro in a close-up environment but I can see your point. Sounds like a nice adaptation you've made to make it suitable for stage use.

I know a couple of people who have done this, and i know it works well.

I still use the close up version and find i have no problems with it. but i do really like the idea of a stage version i might even try this one day.

Sometimes the smaller doesn't mean better.. Or it was bigger isn't better? Nevermind.. 8)

And I think you're right about the presentation. A3 sized posters are better in my opinion. Never liked the wallet.

I love this routine and have used it as a stage routine using DVD cases instead of the cards/posters.

The only change that I don't use a poker chip and instead, have the reveal etched on a toy gun.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
