I Have just got a new wireless router for broadband access.

Which leaves me with my old Buffalo airstation g router. I also have a Minolta magicolour mf printer which has a USB port only.

I was wondering is it possible to conect the router to the printer and have a wireless printer, or do i need a special router for this?

if you don't mind yet another transformer plugged into your wall you could get a wireless print server which is just a 802.11 AP with a USB (http://www.netgear.co.uk/wireless_print ... gps606.php is typical).

then you can print to an IP address otherwise you'll need your printing PC to be turned on

Or you could ahve gone for a Vigor modem/router which has a usb port and does kewl stuff like vpns

It depends. Some routers, including some Draytek Vigor models, have a USB port that allows you to connect a printer. The router then acts like a printer server. If your router does not have a USB port (and your documentation for it does not mention using a printer with it) then you'd have to either buy a printer server device or set up a PC to do the job of sharing the printer. You could use a miniITX PC for such as task.

Personally, I have a Vigor router and found that the printer server was not completely reliable.

It was a free Orange livebox and it does a hole for a USB on it, would this be suitable?

I just want something that is cheap and effective. miniITX PC looks a bit expensive compared to routers

Apparently so:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Livebox wrote:USB host port specifically for using a standard USB printer on the network, which Orange is calling "Liveprint"

That page also has a list of printers known to work, plus links to other lists.
