Ha, I was just coming on to post about the very same thing. It was a special edition of wired, put together by J.J. Abrahms. The theme of it was the magic of mystery. I'm sure if you've seen any of his shows, you know his name, and how much he uses mystery. LOST is my personal favorite show of all time, as I've probably already mentioned. He created it, but now other people do most of the work for it, and are finishing it up, he still looks over everything though, more than most of the others.
Anyhow, in his TED speech, he talkes about doing magic as a child, and getting this box at Tannens, I think he made that part up though...
But it still made a good story... If you do a video search for "TED J.J. Abrahms" You can probably find it. He talks about magic for quite a bit, and mystery, and stuff like that in the lecture, and in the magazine. I have yet to see the whole magezine, though I hear it's really cool.
I had looked over the article, most of it being stuff I felt was overanalyzed, (Please tell me if I spelt that incorrectly, and if spelt is a word.) I wasn't into visual magic for that long though, as it doesn't appeal to me as much as mentalism. I had always found visual magic much more simple than mentalism. I know there is quite a bit of psychology to it anyhow, but I don't think it can go that far for visual magic.
Interesting article, and magezine, and magezine editor.
