Magic Pictures

Postby Ian The Magic-Ian » May 1st, '09, 03:07

I took a couple pictures for a boy scout project. I had to take 20 pictures with a theme so, naturally I chose magic. I'm rather inept with a camera and this is my first time with a light box so there are a couple corners and ruffles in the fabric that I'd prefer not to be there but...It's the best I was able to do and for a first try I think they're pretty good. It's best to watch it in regular screen and not full screen as the pictures become grainy in full screen mode. After watching it over again, I realize the coins could be cleaned of a little more as could the rings. It's already done so... I'll do better next time. I learn from my mistakes. (don't bingo)

Enjoy (comments and/or criticism are much appreciated)

Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Well, I liked them.

If you were to put music to that, you would have an "audio visual" (the artists purchase a licence for the music via the Royal Photgraphic Society). Local photographic societies have an AV section and your compilation is as good as some of the AVs that I have seen. This goes back to the days of slide projection, way before that youtube thing.

Have you tried sites like Photo.net (can't remember the other one now - not flickr) which will give you more specific criticisms?

As regards specific comments: it's hard. There are a bunch of photographs in the National Portrait Gallery. They are good (and they've been selected by professional curators), but if you were to enter any one of them into a local RPS competition, none of them would score more than half marks because they don't meet the tick-box criteria of the judges. Just shows what other people know.

Thanks Aporia! I appreciate the comments. No, I have not tried photo.net but I'll give it a look.

I really liked that. If I saw those at an exhibition I wouldn't think they were out of place. Cool. I hope you get recognition by whoever's job it is to judge the project.

As a photography student, amateur photographer who has been lucky enough to exhibit small amounts of work, I would mostly agree with the unfortunate Queen.

The only thing stopping them being that one step closer to professional is merely the quality of production, something that isn't your job anyway!

I really really like them Ian, keep it up!

I got great responses from the one guy who's a pro photographer and he really liked them and told me to keep working on everything and overall everyone was impressed so... All is well. Thanks again for the comments!
