Don't know the name of this trick

Postby Famuus » May 6th, '09, 15:43

hy

They may sound like a stupid question but i have a question and i want to ask it. Here comes the question:

I was watching some magic stuff on youtube and there was this guy who askes a random round number from a person in die audiance. She answered '70'. Then he asked her to count down from tweny to zero and he started wrighting on a big piece of that thin stuff... what was it... oh yes, paper. After the 20 seconds were over he turned it to the audiance and there were alot of numbers on the boad. Everybody was like 'yes, and now what?'. So he started to explain. And it came down to this.

All the numbers in every horezontaly row added: 70
All the numbers in every vertacaly row added: 70
Diagonaly: 70
The four numbers top right; 70
The four numbers top left: 70
bottum left and right: 70

Every combination of four linked numbers (all diferent numbers) counted up towards 70

Does anybody know the name of this trick? Can't find it but really like it

greetings

The best magic square routine can be found in Doug Dyment's Mindsights booklet. Loads of info and presentational ideas in it. Brilliant. Check it out here...

Yuppers, magic square it is. There's one in Corinda, I also think there's one in Paul Zennon's Street Magic book and Karl Fulves Self Working Mental Magic but I might be wrong about the last two.

Not in Fulves, but definately one in Zenon.

I prefer the routine if the number isn't named. Just written down and kept "secret."

You can then go into a large square of approximate guesses, or statistics like"8% of people tend to go with their age..." or whatever and the admit defeat.

Then the reveal takes place!

Lybrary's a good source for Magic Square stuff. I'm pretty sure they have this particular flavour, with all the additional 70s. It's a passion for Wasshuber so if you drop him a line, I'm sure he'll give you good info and sell you the right thing. :)
