Eugene Burger Exploring Magical Presentation - Which Deck?

Postby neil_the_newbie » May 20th, '09, 00:19

Hi - I'm very new to magic and I have just purchased this dvd and am interested in the black envelope routine. Eugene says that it uses a 101 deck where certain cards are repeated. Please could someone suggest where I can buy the sort of deck Eugene uses in this routine. Am i right in thinking there are different types of 101 or Koran decks?

Heres the routine:

Thank you in advance

You're based in Worcester, so why not try http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/ ?
Search for "Koran" and they've got three different decks. I cannot honestly say just how different they are (you might find that all three are pretty much identical, bar the price), but they should all work on the same principle.

Or http://www.topsecretmagic.co.uk/

If you give either of them a ring, they can probably answer your questions (we are limited in what we can say on the open forum).

I made my own, which is dirt cheap is you use Bicycle Seconds and put them in a normal Bike box.

And doing this gives you the means to make four or five Koran decks with different 'outcomes', which can be useful if you do repeat performances for the same clients.

I'd also recommend checking out Richard Osterlind's presentation of the Five Star Prediction (on Easy to Master Mental Miracles Vol 2). It's exactly the same routine, takes a much more bold approach - which I find flies every time - and does away with the need for the two nested envelopes (although you might want to stick with the Piatt pair if you're working close-up).

Cheers,

Pete

Again I'd say make your own. It isn't exactly a major expense. Max Mavens video mind vol 2 has a routine with the same principle behind except using ESP cards making it easier to have repeated cards.

I assumed from the question that Mr Burger did not explain the precise workings of the deck, and just gave his presentations. If he did, then yes, you might as well make up your own from seconds!

Burger does indeed explain the workings of the deck. As does Osterlind in his video.

I know Richard Osterlind does, but Neil might not have that. It'd be a bit of a false economy to buy another DVD and several decks of seconds to make one Koran Deck!

Does anyone know in which publication (a book in print, ideally) the original Koran sequence is described?

Thanks.

I would think this would either be in "The Magic of Al Koran" or "Bring Out the Magic in Your Mind." I have yet to see any book of Al Koran's routines (written by him or not) that is still in print, except for maybe "Al Koran's Professional Presentations" - which some online retailers seem to have, like the Magic Depot.

Sorry to bump an old thread but can anyone tell me where I can buy the Eugene Berger DVD "exploring magical presentaton" please? Do people rate it? I couldn't find a review in the review index.

Thanks,

Craig.

I can't say I've done an exhaustive search, cragglecat, but World of Magic, Kernow Magic and the Merchant of Magic all apparently have it. The last is currently the cheapest of the three.

What was truly depressing was that I typed "Exploring Magical Presentations" into Google, and it suggested a search for "Exploring Magical Presentations torrent".

It's an L&L release (without the stock audience), so I'm sure it can't be too hard to find.

I don't take his every word as gospel - Eugene's performing style is so very different to my own - but he gives you a shedload of things to think about. And thinking about what you do and how is the whole point of the project.

Yes, there is a killer version of Out Of This World. I do it a lot, and it's truly wonderful.

The other effects on the DVD are good too - some impromptu, some requiring special 'stuff', but the DVD isn't about the tricks. As Burger has said himself in other publications, YOU ALREADY KNOW ENOUGH TRICKS!!. It's about the presentation.

In my opinion it's a first-rate DVD.
