I'm really looking forward to getting home so I can watch this. I've seen lawrens perform and [I] sat in amazement. and CJ doesn't often "amaze" me.

Do you mind me asking how this compares to other contact juggling DVDs available? Are you pitching this at magicians?

Guys,

Thank you so much for your warm comments !!
I'm really glad you like the teaser...soon I'll post a full excerpt of the dvd for you to see more.

Alot of the dvds I've seen teach you mainly body-rolling moves, which are nice between, but on my side I've a true love for the isolation/floating illusion moves.

And you're right, I think this technique is a must for us magicians for plenty of reasons...
The best being that lay people think it's a magic trick !!!
^^
And you've nothing to hide !

Anyway, I'll come back soon with a full move, stay tuned friends !

Best,

Have you seen In Isolation? It's largely a performance DVD, but has a teaching section as well, devoted to the isolation/illusion style.

Don't get me wrong, CJ is totally magical, I've been using it and wandering gigs for years - I just wonder what this DVD teaches that you couldn't find in the forum/moves/essays sections of http://www.contactjuggling.org

Hi,

I have the dvd in isolation...a great one !

I'm also a member of contactjuggling.org, very useful site with plenty of great tips and advices.

What is there in my dvd ?
Well, you'll find several finger work/isolation (26), some of which I discovered, and some I explain my way, no text, no comment, only images...with my own style of manipulations.

Here's a full excerpt : "the floating ball" move...

You can move a glass of water or even your cased deck of cards with it...^^

Cheers,

So you don't have any speech at all in your demonstrations? Does that not make it very difficult to learn?

I've been teaching people to contact juggle for years now, principally isolation/illusion based work, and I think it'd be really very, very difficult to teach some of the more complex isolation work without any sort of written/spoken instruction.

The example you give above is for a very simple move, and the explanation part isn't really any different from the performance part. I can't imagine teaching an enigma or an isolated palm spin the same way - it's not like a magic trick where doing it slowly at an "exposed" angle will suffice.

I hope you don't take my comments the wrong way, I'm just giving you my thoughts.

Hi,

No problem, you have your teaching experience, as I do...

Many customers here in France has told me that the explanation parts of the dvd was crystal clear (pun intended)...

I think that there're many ways to teach things, and I choose this mood...and it seems to work.

Anyway, the dvd is online...

Thank you all for your interest !

I've recently dug out my contact ball to play around with (I tend to not play with it so much until the weather is good and I can go outside... a few years back I nearly catapulted it through my 32" TV screen see... whoops!!)

But yeh! I'm no pro or anything - just know the basics and enjoy spending a few hours fiddling around with it. The other day though, I tried do some simple rolls down to my feet and then I attempted to "butterfly" it from my top of my foot to my sole (was on the floor by this point)....

After about an hour of trying and a few near misses to the face... I couldn't achieve it. I just ended up lobbing it across the garden!

Do you think it's possible?

It's got to be.

I just mustn't be dextrous enough/have the right technique!

It's probably waaaaaaaaaaay out of my range to do but it was fun to try whilst in the sun with a G&T ;D

Hi Pheebs,

It seems to me that you're more on the "body-rolling side" of the force ! lol !!
There are some really neat tricks one can do this way, imo more difficult than "isolations" stuff...

I can do some chest rolls and arms work, though I do not perform them ; I concentrate on illusions moves just because I'm a magician and they fit well with my style.

The rule is : "if you can balance a sphere on any part of your body, so you can roll it to this particular point"
Easier said than done !!

Rehearsal is the key point, do it again and again and sooner than you think you'll be able to do it.

Good luck,

PS : This blog hosts a bunch of fantastic videos, both "isolationist" and body-rolling...

Jea9 in particular got seeerious skills...

You may want to watch Bruno Labouret's work also.
