For the one-handed shuffle, the weaving is VASTLY easier if the cards have a slight bend to them. The center of the packets should be bent in convexly towards your palm. Just trying to push the packets together with brute force won't work well, but pushing them up and into each other works well. Think of how you do a faro from the corners and try to duplicate that action.
