They're certainly supposed to be evangelcial which only means spread the word, not shove it down anyone's throats. If they do that it's not a religion it's a cult.
Of course, others may hold differing opinions and I respect their right to be completely and utterly wrong.... :D

My Philosophy teacher used to remark that at least the door-to-door religious callers, the street preachers and the like who seemed to inconvenience him on an unusually regular basis cared, if not genuinely for the future of his soul then at least for their religion, whilst those respectful of his viewpoint but certain of their religion were (in their eyes) happily letting him go to hell...

I draw the line at extremism, but I've got a lot more respect for those who are at times vocal of their faith, far more than I have for those who claim to be religious but pick and choose which parts of their religion they adhere to depending on what's most suitable/convenient for them.

That's a good point - there's a guy in our town who every saturday morning stands in the streets off the main high street with a megaphone reminding passers by that they're going to die soon and should start repenting their sins.....charming fellow ehh?

Of course he's allowed to believe in what he likes, but it is a tad annoying when your trying to do your shoping and your being told your going to burn in hell.

I asked them why they'd persisted with me for ten minutes and they said "we're only trying to help you". Misguided they may be, but ultimately they are trying to do right by other people.

My Mum has an easy solution to that.
She calls herself a Pagan (She owns a few books and doesn't really take much notice of normal religious festivals, except Christmas, which she does for the present giving). Immediately people are calling her a witch, worshipping Satan etc etc etc.
The religious nuts that do door to door preaching have heard of her, and I've witnessed them knock on the doors before her house on the street, cross to the other side of the road where there is no pavement, walk past her house, cross back over, then start knocking on doors again.
This works for the Witnesses, Buddhists, local county councillors up for re-election...

Someone once said "If Dawkins is the best arugment agaisnt there is, where do i sign up for the church?" I forget who said it.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.
