Hours awake preparing last minute routine for an agent 39.

Monday morning at 9 am the phone rang asking if I could put in a last minute performance to fill out a talent show......they ofered to pay my travel expenses....catch was I had to put together a 20 minute performance.....

I was up continuously until I showered and left for Raileigh at 1500 today.....I searched every pub every hall and even performed for a party quickley and found no talent show....no agent and no travel expenses...he is no not answering the phone and I am in a foul mood and yet for some absoultely barmy reason I am in uominster tommorow digging the guy out of another whole (WHY AM I SUCH A PUSHOVER).

Anyway this will proberly be moved to green and slimy xXx Love you all.

I can only read between the lines but I suppose my question is, "what does this guy have to offer you"?

There's always the long game, but there's also a question of reliability. You might add 'loyalty', but I'd not rely on that ever.

If they let you down once they will do so again. That's a life lesson, not a show biz one. Sorry you're having a bad time. Get tough and move on from it, my friend.

Unless he contacts you, has a good reason for what happened and repays you the expenses then I'd drop this other gig. Is it really worth it, working for people who are likely to let you down, even more so if you're doing the gig as a favour?

The reason was he got the name of the pub wrong....

I was rather ummmmmmm annoyed at this but it happens so I kept my cool....performed my show in upminster as normal and wham bam thankyou man 2 agents approached me both wanting to work with them and another guy wants me to do a do in the finacial district for his works party....(appt pays quite well)

I am on teh verge of thinking do I take this up as a career even if just a trainee career as my title says but I love it .... I get a buzzz from it....but I also get the I worked really hard to get that reaction.

Argh so few questions and so much time

Any advice from career magicians (other than don't do it) would be greatly appreciated.

Chances are strong that it was one of your "friends" that pulled this

ALWAYS get 50% of the fee up front (non-refundable with cancellation rider) and that helps cut down on such stupidity. With Paypal and other credit card services out there now days, they can't give you an excuse to not give you the cash.

I always take the full fee before hand, I've been stung with non-payers and last minutes cancelations and changes in the past. Now I don't take that chance and ask for all the money at least a week before the performance. Any refund that I offer for cancelations decreases as the gig approaches.
