G'morning People from Sunny Ole Exeter!(AH lady "magici

Postby Pheebs » Jun 13th, '09, 10:32

Why hello hello!

Was having a browse of bits and bobs on the good ole internet and stumbled across this webby! Mega to see such enthusiastic people with the whole magic!

Bit of background for you - I'm Pheebs (you wouldn't have guessed that... unless of course your some kind of genius mentalist of course ;)!) and from Exeter, UK. I have been fudging around with magic ever since I was ickle and just really loved generally doing little tricks and what not with friends and family. At School, my French Teacher started up a magic club and I popped along religiously (it had a big audience to begin with and then fizzled down to me!) and yeh. I loved it!

Due to exams and then popping to Uni... where I had to work so incredibly hard at having fun... ;)... I kind of rusted up and only used the odd trick to have a giggle or to fund a few drinks! I've since moved here there and everywhere doing different jobs and have only just really settled in Exeter where I started to play around with a few bits and bobs magic wise again. I've recently joined up the Exonian Magical Society (although haven't yet had my induction - will probably do this in the next meeting or so!) I wonder whether any Exonian/Devonshire people are here? Or maybe Bristol people? I came up to Bristol a few weeks back and was collared as a "willing volunteer"/"assistant" a fair bit? Scatty, slightly blonde, quite possibly daft lady? Hello hello if I've met you!! But yeh, I'm part of that society and I think they're awesome people :) Just had Pavel come down and do a lecture which was fascinating - really nice chap and the stuff he did was so simple, yet effective! Top chap I say.

Anyway, I digress! I've once again fallen in love with magic and have become slightly obsessed! I'm incredibly rusty and need much much practice but it will all come with time and dedication :)

In an ideal world I would love to become a proper full time professional magician! I think it's a few years ahead of me yet (to say the least), but I'm quite a determined lady and well yeh. I always set my aims high and then try to achieve past them ;) I much prefer close up Magic too... kind of impromptu stuff you can do anywhere to anyone... but then I guess that's because it's all I've ever done. I've never really performed to an audience as such (well... I did do a fair bit of acting when younger but no magic stuff)! I'm always willing to try my hand at pretty much anything! Next week I believe I maybe having a play round (first time really!) with balloon twisting and things! Should be very interesting!

I'm going to have to probably be a bit of a bore with my idols in magic and say good ole Tommy Cooper and Derren Brown. I heart them both - Tommy Cooper sketches never fail to have me in stitches and Derren Brown I just find very clever and inspirational!

So yeh! That's me! I'm trying to wangle my way in to anything magic related as the more I see/more people I have contact with and the more jamming sessions I attend, the better I can be! I'm one of these people too who are 90% of the time incapable of being able to figure out how to do a trick through paper instructions. I'm a very visual person and generally need to see something to be able to figure out how it's done (even if it's not shown to me how it's done, send me away to have a proper think and I sometimes I can logically think things out). I guess it's a good age to be born with the wonderful world of dvds :) Although I would jump through hoops to be a full time apprentice for someone awesome. I could just... well do magic and learn it 24/7. Canny get bored me :D

So hello hello! I've spoken far too much now (like a typical woman) and yes! I look forward to poking my way around your forum!

Oh yeh, I should probably say, people from Exeter/Bristol/anywhere probably know me as Clare (Clare Southern) :) Phoebe is my middle name and most of my friends call me Pheebs so it's just natural for me to plonk it down as that!

Just to confuse the lot of you ;)

Hello there :)

And yes - sorry for the long introduction! I guess I've been asked so many times lately about who I am and what I do magic wise, I figured I would bash it all out at once

That and I canny help the fact words seem to unwillingly spill out of my mouth/fingers with no control ;)

sorry for the long introduction

Hey - don't apologise

Your intro was a very pleasant change from the succession of one liners that we mostly see here
