[Solved] Glue for cards - which to buy please?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Im not that good at it either.
i tend to wet strip. soaking a card in hot water for a while, and then slipping off the surface i want.

but it's messy.the middle of playing cards, is this thick black gunk

Yes, I remember the stuff. I tried steaming mine rather than soaking, but gave it up as a bad job. I'd rather risk the spec seeing the too thick card than go through that drama again hehe!

why not just buy them?

Unless you need something specific, Cards for magic do a double/twin faced bike deck for a fiver.

and your going to spend that on glue, and end up with something thick.

Because I'm stupid. I got it into my head that as I'd made the envelopes, I might as well do the cards too! And yes, I've spent well over £5 on different glues. Still, I'm determined to do a Magnus Magnusson if it kills me :P

Double-sided tape is probably easier and more reliable than Power Pritt. If you put too much glue on the card, you risk warping and if you don't apply enough it won't stick and will come apart at the corners. I would go with the tape. Do what Dale said - overlap the tape over the edge of the card and trim as necessary; that way, you're guaranteed good adhesion right to the edge of the card.

You had to say that, didn't you Replicant? I can imagine how the conversation will go when I tell The Boss that I'm off to The Range, Staples or Wilko again lol! I must have visited every stationery shop in the Halifax area at least twice in the past week looking for the right sized envelopes, glues, tape etc. She already thinks I'm weird  8)
