£180 to spend on children's effects

Postby fishistheice » Jun 17th, '09, 08:02

Hi all

The magic society at my school has £180 left over from it's budget, which needs to be spent within the next two weeks or so, otherwise the money will disappear from us...

We mainly do shows for primary school children (ages ranging from 6 to 11) - are there any effects that people would reccomend? We could get several cheap effects or perhaps go for something big if there's something that people would reccomend for the money.

Molto grazie!

Books are your best bet.
Old but still very valuable (except the trick called Opium!) is
Open Sesame by Eric Lewis & Wilfred Tyler. ( Goodliffe Publications)
This will give you tricks, techniques, routines, biz & even games.About £10

Then there are the first 4 (don't bother withnumber 5) Kid's Stuff by Francis Ireland ( Marshall)
These are nothing but kid's tricks/routines ideas for Acts.

Finally
There is The Land Of Make Believe. by Fred Barton. Goodliffe Pub. again) & in paperback. These are magic playlets.

Eric Sharp's Specialised Children's Routines, with Funny Patter & Situation Comedy for Children using Standard props.
Very funny routines that the ideas & patter of which can be adapted to other tricks.

A small booklet..( Supreme Magic..try MBBP) Poz-itive Magic by Poz Great advice and great routines.

Magictales by :Leslie Melville. Story telling magic. Great magic with great stories.

I agree with Dale. Look for any of the 4 Edwin books, Supreme produced a wealth of kids stuff, most is explained in his books.

Look for second hand suppliers of magic effects, and look for Edwin and Supreme stuff. Try Mike Shepherd (Castle Magic) or John Oakley ([http://www.jao.delboys.com/]).

Also try Ebay for Edwin Hooper or Supreme. Edwin produced a wealth of kids magic through Supreme from the likes of Ian Adair and Ali Bongo amongst others, much of it was flat pack card stuff, well printed from what I remember.

Dale and Allen will know much more, I was never into kids magic.
