I think Farlsborough hit the nail on the head imo :)

He probably did. I've had mine so long now that I don't notice those things any more.

My next portable media player (PMP) will be one of the gorgeous Cowon iAudio models. Stunning in every way and rave reviews.

Having said that, I've just bought an Acer Aspire One netbook. It's light and tiny and can play anything. And about the same price as the Cowon.

I wanted a cheap and cheerful media player and got it from a Hong-Kong-based eBay seller. It has everything I was looking for, namely the largest possible screen, the ability to take memory cards, and the ability to double as a basic text reader. It's so very generic that it bears no name at all.

Also found a lovely camera case at Jessops that fits it very nicely, and has a nice suedey internal pouch for the memory cards and an external pouch for the earphones. So I'm just as happy as a sandboy.

Still haven't got round to putting much onto it, except filling a couple of cards with ephemeral films. I'm a sucker for old educational and advertising flicks.

OOOH that cowon thing looks nice...

i think the other thing that, for me, makes the zen so good, is that is has an expandable memory too - none of this upgrading rubbish...just buy a memory card and whack it in...and they're cheaper...

you ipodophiles make me sick! :D

zen has better sound quality too generally, i've extensively tested that...

Nah, not really, unless you're testing them with professional headphones you can't really say either way - and even then, I've not seen anybody objectively say that the iPod's sound quality is any better or worse than the Zen's, and this includes professional studio engineers and those who review audio equipment for a living.

So yeah, the difference between iPods and Creative Zens - in terms of functionality, at least - these days is pretty negligible to be honest.

well, actually yes...in my opinion i have extensively tested it...using friends ipods, and using the same headphones for both...listening to the same tracks and set up...

yes, i am being pendantic... :)

Yeah, but there's all sorts of things that would throw those results into question - were both units on full charge? Were the actual audio files exactly the same, or was it two copies of the same song that could have been at wildly different bitrates? There's all sorts of things that could have affected those results, not least of all the fact that you're a rampant Zen fanboy. :D

which would also indicate that you are not..and pride yourself on your techie knowledge...does that make sense to you? maybe train or training as a sound engineer or something similar...

:D

well, I'm hardly a one man testing gallery - i am however, entitled to my opinion and allowed to believe what i wish...i've played guitar for over 20 years, dj'd every week for 8 years at my own night...so i do have a pretty good, responsive ear...just the one...completely deaf in the other..

wish that were true, but was merely a weak joke...

Close on the engineer thing, very close indeed! You must be psychic.
