HDMI / DVI is essentially the same from this perspective.

I would go with DVI to DVI if it were me.

ok just to clarify.
my computers video card has both a vga output and a dvi output, curently it is dvi - dvi into my 19" monitor.

my 37" tv has a pc input socket (vga) or hdmi.
I have a dvi to hdmi converter socket to covert the dvi output to a hdmi socket for the hdmi cable ie a gender changer, later when upgrading my pc /get a new one it will have hdmi output included.

so my question is.... is it worth bothering connecting my pc to the hdmi socket, will i see any benefit. :?:

Aha!

Then yes DVI is far superior to VGA for the purposes of not compressing the digital image.

Sitting that close to the TV it will have a large impact. Go HDMI to DVI and be happy 6 months from now especially if you plan to use this to view HD content.

Bear in mind HD content is often at 720 or at best 1080p which is 1280x1024 (Not wide) I'm to busy to look up the wide settings.

So if you have 1600x1200 screen and watch HD content it will pixilate if you make it full screen.

Hope that helps :)

sweet talkmagic is now huge and i have an upscaling dvd player for my magic videos too.
mind you some of the stuff now looks like an old comodore 64 graphics so some adjustments to be made to the settings yet.

Yeah that is the native resolution versus the native encoding of the video's.

Your only option is to make them smaller or make your resolution smaller to match the encoding.

Personally I just watch them smaller :)

I'll not cast a vote but leave it to say that when I was awarded a rather large sum of retroactive pay, I decided then and there that if I was going to face long periods of being home-bound there were some key things that would be in place; a nice HD Tv (48 inch) and a decent PC station. It cost me a bit but on those tough days, they are both blessings...

 not to sound mushy about it all, but you are all blessings to me on such days in that my on-line friends tend to be the greater extent to my actual social life these days. :?
