Hello from Japan!

Postby townleystreet » Jul 6th, '09, 14:35

Hello!

I only recently discovered this forum, but I'm glad I did. As much as I'd like to, I never call myself a magician or mentalist. Instead I'm an English teacher (like 95% of all foreigners over here), who uses magic to teach.

I learnt a lot about presentation when I came over here. My Japanese is really utterly terrible. There's no excuse for it - that's just the way it is. As a result I've found a lot of ways to use body-language, very specific words and so on to direct attention and facilitate effects.

Of course a little mentalism goes a long way here. There's nothing quite like telling a student to think of any English word they like, and then I 'guess' what it is.

I'm hoping I can learn a lot that will be helpful to me from this site and who knows, maybe one day what I've learnt can help somebody else!

Hi townleystreet and welcome
Everyone's pretty friendly here and always offers up great advice (from my experience anyway!)

Do you know what, I've never thought about mixing magic and, in particular Mentalism into teaching practices. It sounds like it really can work. I'll have to broach the subject to my partner, who teaches also.
I wonder what our Ed Balls, education minister, would have to say to that!hehehe

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
