This thread reminds me of Bill Bryson's excellent A Short History of Nearly Everything. Not to everyone's taste, perhaps, but a fascinating read that makes a complex subject matter more accessible for the likes of me. I highly recommend it.

Nah, we must have nearly solved it all this time!

I'm sure that as soon as any linking theory comes along there will be something discovered that doesn't fit. We probably aren't very close to a TOE yet.


There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

The man was a genius!

People that are genuinely interested in/have an understanding of scientific concepts get a great deal more from his books than the average reader I'm sure!

Even more worrying, there's a lot of very accurate theology in those works - so I'm told by a Priest who knows a bit about the topic.
