Hi from The Morrigan - a mentalist

Postby The Morrigan » Aug 29th, '09, 14:36

Hi everyone, I'm the Morrigan.

I'm FAIRLY new at mentalism but learning fast and wowing people already. The intention is to soak up knowledge like a sponge and get out there professionally. After all you have to jump up and get telling jokes if you want to be a comedian so why should this be any different.

So HI!

:? You want to be a comedian and yet you're studying Mentalism?

PLEASE... stick with traditional magic and leave Mentalism alone, there's already enough out there ruining it!

Though some level of levity is needed when doing Mentalism, it is NOT what you want for a comedy act. You MIGHT be able to use some of the more obvious trick-like routines that are out there and do well, but for christ sake, don't try being a funny psychic!

He didn't say he wanted to be a comedian, he used it as an analogy.

I like the name The Morrigan, it is suitably nondescript, yet catchy somehow..

Far from it. I'm one of those jerks that believes Mentalism needs to be presented in a more sincere way vs. as a bloody joke or slap in the face or simply, as a "trick".

Needless to say I get very defensive when it comes to how one should approach this kind of work. I'm not saying you have to claim to be Psychic or "the chosen" but believability is paramount! You can't do that if you're busy shopping for cheap laughs.

Nonetheless... welcome to the insanity. Consider yourself now initiated

Still seemed to miss his analogy Craig...he was merely saying he wants to jump and get stuck in, as a comedian would do by standing up and telling jokes.

Morrigan, or is that The Morrigan, welcome to TM, you will find much here, especially good advice on mentalism. If you are UK based, you may want to come to Tabula Mentis VII, check out the events page here

Got it in one. Craig seems to have it lodged in his head that I want to be a comic!

Great to have you here :)

As a newcomer to mentalism myself, I highly recommend this forum. If I hadn't found it, I would probably still be wasting gazillions of money on stupid tricks, without really going anywhere.
