Also bear in mind that on stage you do not need to deal with the super fine "I can't see it 6 inches from my nose" type thread... depending on distance, good old sewing thread or fishing line can (and should) be used.
Lighting AND THE SET are important as is your distance from the person sitting closest to you. You will also need to study things and watch out for how spot lights might catch things.
DON'T USE A SOLID COLOR THREAD!
It's best to alternate with three chief colors; purple, (dark) green and deep brown or blue vs. black... believe it or not, black actually shows quicker, especially when it's a solid line. If you use clear mono then do 6" of black then 6" of purple, back and forth the full length of the line(s) you use.
