Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Hello,

I have never worked with IT before, ever. What is the proper lighting for a stage situation?

Front light, back light, stage wash?

Thanks,
Ian

Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

All depends what effect.....

I was doing an eary stage mental effect for something in Menorca so I had a light coming from behind and I was told it worked well but if you want people to cleary see your face so that you appear more a friend than a spook you want your face to be hoghly iluminated...(Is this what you meant if not sorry)

(I did have a finish lighting expert helping me so they where by no means my own ideas)

Also bear in mind that on stage you do not need to deal with the super fine "I can't see it 6 inches from my nose" type thread... depending on distance, good old sewing thread or fishing line can (and should) be used.

Lighting AND THE SET are important as is your distance from the person sitting closest to you. You will also need to study things and watch out for how spot lights might catch things.

DON'T USE A SOLID COLOR THREAD!

It's best to alternate with three chief colors; purple, (dark) green and deep brown or blue vs. black... believe it or not, black actually shows quicker, especially when it's a solid line. If you use clear mono then do 6" of black then 6" of purple, back and forth the full length of the line(s) you use.

Now that I've pi**ed off every stage magician out there for tipping so much material for free, I'll leave... my job is done.
