Unfortunately all too real. Fascinating article.
On a lighter note, there is a huge unexplored world underground, man-made and natural. I always thought that disused sewers could be converted to underground malls, and made into attractions. Where I grew up (County Clare) we have well over a hundred miles of cave systems explored and mapped out. You could cover large parts of the county without ever seeing sky.
