Magic for a friend's wedding

Postby deejay » Oct 2nd, '09, 01:30

Hi,
Together with my other 2 magic hobbyst friends, I will be performing magic at my friends weddding sometimes soon.

Each of us have no problem to perform one routine each however we are looking for a kicker at the end to perform together as a surprise to the couple. Any idea what routine/props could be used to perform together with a wedding theme with the couple as the main audience?
appreciate all opinions, thanks ! :-)

Unless you are experienced performers used to working together you will need to do a huge amount of work to pull off a joint routine. Most double acts, unless they are very slick, just make people cringe. Imagine how much worse a three-person act will be.
I am sorry for sounding negative, but those are the facts.
Why not just draw straws for which one of you will do the big effect with the couple? I find cards across goes down very well, but there are several effects. If you are good at moves, then some form of a linking card routine, with suitable patter, might be what you are looking for. Tony.

Well if you really wanted to do something why not use two of the three of you as either props or reveals?

I agree that it takes time to develop something for more than one, but as its a friend you can perhaps be slightly more cheesy and personal that if it was a professional paying gig for unknown peeps.

Why not do a dual card thing where bride and groom pick a card each and maybe have a tshirt printed with each card on the back which is revealed? a nice keepsake possibly too?

I dunno, just throwing stuff in the pot

Work out an Anniversary Waltz with all three of you.

Thank you all, appreciate your comments and ideas. Anniversary Waltz with chosen card in a t-shirt can be something I can develop! Good stuff!

I've used something a few times when working with others that I think was originally from a Simon Lovell lecture.

Every so often you get someone to choose a card, apparently mess up the reveal and then yell to one of the others "What's this lady's card?"

The other guy shouts back "Five of Hearts" or whatever the card really is.

A few minutes later, he asks you for his spectator's card and you oblige.

You're forcing in a prearranged sequence, if anyone hadn't guessed.

Everyone just needs to remember what the next card is. It's a great running gag.
