Time Sensitive

Postby keith atkinson » Oct 11th, '09, 18:57

Name: Time Sensitive by Jay Sankey

Available from: Dude That’s Cool Magic, amongst others.

Price:£17.99

Maker: Jay Sankey

Examinable: After The dirty work has been done.

Difficulty: Quite Easy

Out of 10: 10

Effect: You draw the face of a clock on your business card. You invite a spectator to help you in an experiment. You ask them to visualise the clock, you tell them it has a square face, and only one hand. You ask them to concentrate, then you ask them the million dollar question, what minute is the hand pointing to… you show them your prediction. It never misses .No sleight-of-hand required. Instantly resents.

Use your own business cards and an ordinary marker.
Perform close-up for one person or during a stand-up show in from of a larger audience.
No nail writers or secret writing devices of any kind.
No stooges or any pre-show work.

Comments: I received this, and thought that what I had received, wasn’t value for money. How wrong I was. After some fiddly work constructing this, I have had some great reactions. The great thing with this effect, is you can hand your business card out at the end for them to keep, now that can’t be bad.
Unlike most of Jay`s effects I have bought in the past, this doesn`t come with an instructional DVD
I have a couple of other effects using one part of this effect, it is IMHO a killer.

I held back for over six weeks, deciding whether or not to get it. I should have got it straight away, it`s a great trick.

Thanks Keith,

I might have to invest in this, i don't buy much magic anymore so this could be something to change that.

Time sensitive

I viewed the Time Sensitive video by Sankey, but it is not very clear as to how it demostrates the effect; for instance there is no spectator shown saying what time she has choosen and when the actual time is selected i.e it simply shows on the biz card one hand pointing between two numerals , does this mean that it shows a certain hour plus the minutes or just the minutes.
IMHO it tells you very lttle and I must say that as much as I like it I would like a bit more info on it before I purchase it.

Looks like the usual JS fertile imagination. I haven't got this trick, but I've studied the promotional movie clip and worked out a way of handling the routine. Business cards strike me as being a bit small however, and I would opt for something a bit larger (blank card stock?) - besides, my business cards have print on both sides! Or maybe blank playing cards?

Thank you Waldof,
But I am still in doubt about this trick. Is it as clean as Sankey says it is and why does he not show a spectator saying what time she was thinking of.
Do you think it just a question of showing many **ts
Cheers and is it worth buying?

Don't worry about the absence of a spectator. Jay Sankey is demonstrating the product so we imagine the spec choosing a time. Any time that the spec chooses would work. This isn't a live performance; it's just intended to give an idea of the product's potential and the mechanics of how it could be performed.

I don't know Sankey's routine (and, of course, wouldn't expose anything even if I did). In my mind I know how I could make an effect like this work.

All Sankey's products are very good (INMHO) and reactions to this confirm that. It boils down to personal choice whether you buy it or not. I guess it depends on how much you would like to use it.

Thank you Waldof for your interest.
