I applaud you wanting to learn.

I would advise getting Andy Galloway's Misdirecting Card Magic, and Misdirecting Coin Magic.

Two slim books that will teach you SO SO much about misdirection.

I think we are arguing two things here.

1) Technical Misdirection
2) Art of Technical skill.

#2 would be impossible to teach anyone and has to be developed with their own skills and time.

#1 is possible to teach mechanics of misdirection.

For example overt misdirection vs Subtle Misdirection. At least being aware their are differences and what they are may help you classify which effect you have seen or you are reading.

Perhaps a book on the technical possibilities is viable leaving the specifics of a particular technique to the magician in question.

Truer words have never been said. Well they probably have, but you can't go wrong with the two of them.
