Not obscure as such, but things you remember from when your growing up.

one for me, was sitting around the record player with my brothers, and sister singing along to this....

Usualy the record was put on when teh tree was put up.
And the twelve days of christmas was our favorite track, because you can join in with Beaker.

My brother, now has it on cd, and sings along to it with his kids. :)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Every Christmas me and the missus watch the Muppet's Christmas carol featuring Michael Caine. I still maintain it is the best film version of A Christmas Carol ever!

We're Marley and Marley! Whoooo!

The novel has one of the best opening lines:
Marley was dead to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that.
Sets the scene very well!

In the Muppet version there are two Marleys, played by the grumpy old men that used to heckle from the balcony in the TV series. The first Marley of course is called Jacob. The second Marley is... Robert. Bob. Bob Marley.

I can always remember that you knew Christmas was coming soon because the Remmington advert would be on TV!

It was the only time I ever saw that advert!

I remember when Star Wars used to be on TV every Christmas, until the one year I actually wanted to sit down and watch it, they stopped putting it on! I was so upset.

Charlie Brown Christmas.

I always remember watching it and now I own all the Peanuts on DVD's. Which is apparently strange so strange in fact that most of my friends come over and ask to watch them :P

I however slightly off topic had the Muppet Disco Fever on a record.

Dale, I have listened to that album every Christmas since it was released. Can't wait to throw it on Dec. 1st.

Down the local gaming centre, they don't celebrate Christmas. They celebrate Easter in December instead. Why? It's a thinly veiled excuse to eat Cadbury Creme Eggs...

As for growing up, Christmas was a reminder that I couldn't have a birthday party because of a religious festival, and going out was impossible (Nowhere opened on boxing day back then)

Christmas memories... asking my friend Phil, who had been to the gym 4 times a week since Year 8 and was absolutely stacked, how many days until Christmas it was every biology lesson in the autumn and winter months. Hard guy as he was he had a childish obsession with Christmas and would cross off the days in his school planner from the start of the new term

And Paul, you're absolutely right: best version of A Christmas Carol ever!

But the film I most associate with Christmas is Jurassic Park. Back before my Dad realised he didn't have to stubbornly wait before technology was obsolete before buying it, he bought us a VCR as a present for the family (we were to my knowledge the last family on earth to get one). We all wanted to watch Jurassic Park but it was on at lunch time; Dad let us think we missed it and then revealed he'd taped it (oooh!) and we could watch it after lunch. Major excitement!

It's a cheesy novelty hit, but Christmas Rapping by The Waitresses always takes me back to a very special Christmas indeed.

The Muppets brings back memories. One of the driving forces getting me into showbiz was the ambition to guest star on that show. It never happened. I was furious when Jim Henson allowed himself to die rather than take a blood transfusion, and ended my dream. I hate religious nuts.

I always read a Dickens Christmas story at this time of year, and A Christmas Carol was superb. But not his best opening lines - remember: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."
A Christmas without Dickens is not a Christmas.
