Hello everyone :)

Hi there,

My name is Tom and I like to think of myself as an amateur magician. I have always loved magic, even since before I could walk and talk. Floating objects used to fascinate me - and still do to this day.

I like to think of myself as a mentalist; but I never claim to use any real psychic ability. To my way of thinking that crosses a line into a "deception". Instead I like to present things in a (and yes, I know you will sigh at this) Derren Brown style - where he makes it clear that there is no such thing as mediums, before reading the mind of the entire audience and leaving them baffled!

I also take inspiration from Yigal Mensika (who's name I always spell wrong). I love to do levitations, and currantly I am trying to find the correct patter to incorperate mind reading, mentalist tricks, and PK and levitations into a single act. (for example you can claim to be controling the Haunted Pack with your mind powers...)

I hope I'll get along with people here; and I have already started to post reviews for some of my favorite tricks - I hope people like them :)

Tom

If I have a question, or request about Mentalism, or something similar to do with mentalism, where should I post it (I know I need to "earn" my right into the MO area)

Hi Tom, welcome to TM. Probably the best place for a general question is Miscellaneous and if it needs to be moved somewhere else we can do that for you once we get the flavour of the topic. We're very lucky to have dozens of excellent Mentalists from all over the globe as members here so you should get a wide variety of responses  .

Also, another question:

This site seems to be British? For example in the regions section is says "North, South, Manchester, Newcastle" and so on. That's great! I'm from Newcastle myself; does this mean this is a mainly British site somehow?

Indeed it is UK based but the membership is International. At times we go off on a tangent about UK Magic Shows on stage and TV or local performers which tends to confuse the overseas folks but they also chip in with thoughts about their local events as well.

Welcome, Tom. Enjoy your time here for there are many with varied skills from whom you can learn and who you may be able to teach!

I pick up one point from your introduction (forgive me, I am old and tend to do this!). You say that you like to think of yourself as an amateur magician - then stop doing so! What you focus on is what you become. If you wish to succeed, think of yourself as the most knwoledgeable magician in the world - and then work to that end.

Much love. Kryzal x
