Spending money :)

The title says it all really, I am looking for some good close-up magic effects. I am currently planning on buying Revolutionary Ring Flight, and a few others; but does anyone have any suggestions?

I am thinking of Ninja Rings possibly, because I tried the McAbee rings for close-up magic and I didn't like them (the whole was meant to be invisible... it wasn't... at all). Do you think an investment in these would be any better?

Any suggestions welcome :)

Do you have a coin/sponge routine? Or a chop cup?

Chop Cup might be a possibility, but I do not currantly have a coin routine; can you recomend any?

(I think of all of my tricks in term of Tablehopping... so I'm not sure if Chop Cup would work, what do you think?)

Check the Review Section for any of the items you have in mind, lots of useful comments and advice in there.

Chop cup works from table to table.

As for coins, buy Bobo's Modern Coin Magic and you have a lifetime course as well as countless routines and effects.

I have, in fact you'll see I left a thread saying how great it was. Its a real effort; but it does have two minor drawbacks:

1. Occasionally when I go there, there is no review, or it is a badly worded review. (For example the only review I could find for Ninja rings was so vauge I'm not even sure they were talking about the same rings)

2. It doesn't help give me ideas, because to do so would mean reading through every item and review.

Don't get me wrong, its really useful and very handy; but its not perfect :P

Given your concerns about the McAbee rings, I'd avoid the Ninja Rings.

Get Bobo - the great thing about coin stuff is that you can do it with borrowed props much more regularly than cards (as most people don't have a handful of decks of cards in their pocket).

I would agree Bobo's would give ya the help youd need not only to do impromptu tricks but keep the gimmick bag light by using other peoples coins....

what about a good book rather than a one of trick? All Karl Fulves books are great and of course there's Mark Wilson. You'll get much more for you money with a book, esp. if you're not quite sure what you want.

if your after a coin effect, i can whole heartedly reccomend Craig Petty's coin bag dvds. They come with a bag, and some very simple , practical effects.
they are available from world magic shop.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but you do seem at a beginner stage. Thus, I would always recomend Paul Zenon's "Street Magic" book. It has a lot of good effects in, including "Out of this World". It ranges from coins, to cards, to mind reading, to cons and scams. It also acts as if you have never done magic in your life, starting from scratch. In honesty, it is a book that changed my life. Easy to follow pictures e.t.c

I agree with Lady of Mystery and Beardy. A book would serve you far better than any one prop, and you'll get so much more for your money. If you really want a close up penetration effect but arent happy with linking rings, theres an effect called Dreamweaver which is a very nice linking pins routine. The Crazy Mans Handcuffs is also worth looking into (Link by Nabil Murday is probably the definitive work on this). All three effects mentioned use the same clever principle for the actual penetration (and i dont mean the g*p :) ) jim
