Switching off

Postby Chris » Dec 8th, '09, 12:20

I find it increasingly harder to turn off from Magic/Mentalism the more I find it part of my life...

This makes it hard for me to relax and sit still without coming up with ideas!

What do you do when you dont want to think about magic and relax your mind?

It sounds like you need to learn how to quieten your mind down. Have you considered something like meditation, tai chi or yoga?

Or how about Balvenie, Bowmore or Bruichladdich?

And that's just the Bs...!

If i might make a sugestion.

In order to be able to switch off, one first has to decide on one course.

Recent posts have sugested that your looking at many different areas of magic, and performance skills.. which is great, but mental multi tasking is damned difficult to switch off.

cut down on the areas that your currently concentrating on, and then you will be able to free up a bit of mind time.
That mind time, spent reading a book, or watching a movie, or ... Doing absolutly nothing.

I speak from experience.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

That's why I love running and swimming, it's a great way to get the brain to shut off for a while.

No Chris, you misunderstand, I mean "I" go to work when I need to stop thinking. Was just answering your question

On a serious note then (since my sense of humour is obviously pretty c*** (not the best) today  ), I recommend you go swimming laps an hour three times a week.

I read in a book it was good for you.

Agreed 100 per cent. And if it's something you have to think about (karate, darts, football) then so much the better.

I find playing the guitar empties my mind quite alot. If I've spent a day doing alot of magic practicing, reading or uni work, getting the old six string out works a treat.

Of course, that only works if you can play the guitar :P

World of Warcraft.

I have never known anything to create such a mind and time vacuum. I have lost entire days and never think of much at all while playing.

Can sometimes be difficult to stop thinking about this when you stop though but easier to stop thinking about one thing than many.
