Some people have far too much time and money.

Going to a gig of any sort doesn't mean you have too much time or money. It means you enjoy going to see something or somebody live who you enjoy.

I was not attempting to be mean, was merely joking. Perhaps a :P would have helped.

Thanks, Lenoir!!!! Image

I just think this whole campaign is unfair on Joe, he and all the contestants have put a huge amount of effort and work into getting to where they did. If you don't like the programme or the winner's record then don't buy it but it's not really fair to try sabotage someone's dream. This could well be his only chance of fulfil it.

WARNING, THIS IS SWEARY. BUT I FOUND IT FUNNY

The point of the campaign is that Simon Cowell seems to think that the Christmas Number One is his and can be part of the X-Factor franchise.

I remember when there was a sense of excitement over what song would be No.1 for Christmas. There's be people in two or three camps wanting their favourite song to win.

It was fun.

We haven't had that for years, since physical single sales slumped, and SyCo's TV shows have claimed the prize for themselves.

Inclusion of MP3 downloads into the charts now means that we can have a load of fun with whatever song we like - regardless of whether or not it's a current single.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the race. :)

It appears we may get some semblance of this, this year.

I really like RATM and although I think "Sleep Now In The Fire" would have been a better choice, I like the idea that Killing could be number 1.

Although I do not doubt that Joe worked very hard the past few months to win X Factor, it hardly quantifies as real work considering the gain he is being handed on a plate. I think this is another reason why the winners of these shows rarely survive very long, they have no real experience and nothing to intrinsically call "theirs".

If you like it though, that's fine and your choice. Unfortunately many people, myself included, feel that the majority do not make the choice themselves, the monolithic media train of the X Factor does. That's why there is such a huge amount of support to try and derail it, even just a little bit.

It would be like someone hosting a magic performance equivalent of X Factor and taking someone who happens to be liked by the public and handing them a £1 million contract to work in Vegas or something. It belittles the work of everyone else who have actually strived to work and hone their performances all because of what is arguably little more than a carefully orchestrated and choreographed performance by OTHER professionals, supported by a HUGE media campaign.

With the amount of coverage X Factor gets I would not be surprised in the slightest if Joe is number 1 by a landslide. I also would not be surprised if it was someone in marketing at Sony BMG that came up with the idea, it will go one hell of a way to topping up their end of year figures!

I don't really like the song and I've not bought it I just think that it's unfair of people to try to sabotage things. It just seems against the spirit of Christmas number 1. But yes I agree that X Factor does pretty much fix the race for Xmas number 1 which is probabaly wrong too.

We're all entertainers and know how hard it is to actually make it. I don't think that Joe will last more than 5 minutes (one or two of the other contestants may have done though) but he's been given a chance to live his dream.

There's just something about this little campaign that I don't like.

This actually made me laugh outloud.

I cannot believe I was oblivious to this and the song choice makes a lot more sense now. (I still like the guitar riff at the start of Sleep and prefer it as a song but it does make a lot less sense).

*Sits in the corner with the D hat*

Lommy - I agree that is a bit unfair on Joe but it is not a campaign directed at him, it is a campaign directed at the media and trying to remind them that Christmas is a time for us and not "them".

Edit: While I think about it, if we could do the something similar to the shops that put up decorations in September...

However much i hate 99% of the music squirted out like some kind of horrible eel roe onto our faces and then rubbed into our ears...some people enjoy the manufactured pile of toss that is the majority of modern day music...let people buy it and listen to it...

don't for one minute think that you are making a stand for music by voting for this Rage Against the Machine christmas number 1 thing, that you are doing anything other than giving MORE money to a faceless roe squirting corporation...

go and do something nice for someone instead, hand a homeless guy a fiver, buy him a KFC meal, talk to him like a human being for fk's sake rather than stare up at the sky...

let people enjoy the music if they choose to - last time i looked, no one's been knocking on my door forcing me to buy any of it...

aaaahhhhh..thats better...merry christmas... :D

It's already been mentioned, but the other aspect of this campaign - a donation to the Shelter charity - has already raised £38,000 with £9000 extra being given in gift aid, and Tom Morello is donating the money he makes from the sales to the charity Youth Music, so it is doing some good!

yeah i agree - shame though that people dont want to do the donation thing more often in other ways... :D

and, as there's 700,000 plus people involved, if they all gave a fiver...well...maybe my maths is wrong, but that would be more than the 47,000 given...

This bit of it does annoy me a little. The song is only 65p from Play but if people can afford to do that a couple of quid to charity is hardly a burden.

well said Iain! :D And to be honest, this whole campaign has probabaly increased the sales of the X Factor record too with the indirect publicity that it's created
