£120 to spend on close-up/platform Mentalism... any ideas?

Postby Eshly » Dec 26th, '09, 20:00

Well the title says it all really; I am probably going to get Smart-ass, and perhaps a PK ring.

Does anyone have any further suggestions? Hypnosis dvd? I think I've seen one that is good, and its 4 dvds for only £35. But does anyone have any suggestions as to tricks you can perform with a pk ring? All I know about is moving a fork, and stopping a watch?

:)

for god's sake....slow down!

you've ordered a swami, an imp pad, you've got 13 steps...slow down, stop buying...THINGS!

you wont do it - you'll end up wasting it and look back in two months time thinking..."ach...i wasted that money..."

just wait...learn some techniques, practice, perform...then invest the money...

invest...

Your talking to someone who saved up for the Master Prediction System in under a week, money isn't really a worry for me. I am trying to limit myself though :P

I do ask however, that people keep this topic on track. Because I know plenty of people think I am a reckless spender, I promise you I am NOT.

You misunderstand. The advice "Stop spending money" was not to save you money, but to encourage you to develop what you have. You can have all the toys and all the money in the world, if you suck it doesn't really count for much.

Anyway, you're asking a very broad question. What do you perform already? What's your style? What kind of mentalism do you like? What direction do you want to take your performance in?

If you can't answer those questions, you REALLY need to stop buying and start working.

Firstly, can I just say, you have an AWESOME name.

Secondly to answer your question; I do mostly "mental effects" where I "manipulate people" (in a good way!), or demonstrate what the brain can do when trained properly - i.e memorising 50 random objects.

I think I have developed my stuff very well already, atleast for close-up, and I am working on a script for a platform/stage version.

then go out, perform it, tweak it, see what you could add, and then spend money...

asking "what should i buy?" won't help you really, it'll just tempt you!

then you'll spend it on things that sound interesting, but wont actually help you...thats what i was trying to get you to consider...

but why not spend it on The Jinx, via Lybrary.com and then save the rest?

Sounds like a good book, any effects in it that are great that you can reccomend? Things that arn't in 13 steps etc...?

You can spend a lifetime adapting effects you find in The Jinx.
You just have to read and think!

Both the most important requirements for becoming a mentalist;
but unfortunately they appear less often than performers calling themselves "mentalists".

Buying more and more "tools" an "tricks" without taking your time to think and create makes you more a juggler than a mentalist.

Best wishes

What on earth makes you think I haven't invented my own new routines, using old methods? For example there is a prediction I make where the prediction is an ambigram, which later reveals a second prediction, which was written in UV writing on the back wall.

I'm sure I'm not the first to do this; but please don't tell me I don't think about these things. :p

I apologize if you feel treated unjustly.
But all the tools you seem to add as new to your collection seem to be too much for internalizing their possibilities.
You convey the impression that all this new stuff is too much for appreciate each single part of it.

Note:

I've just realized how much more useful this could have been to me if I'd just asked for advice about the uses of a PK ring. :S

Anyone know any good tricks with them?

And in my opinion there's the problem ...

Your 17 right ? You also have a thread on wanting to market or whatever a full size illusion that is unique etc etc but dont know how to go about it ?

Invest is pretty accurate advice from Iain, if you feel you can either make a name for yourself or money (depends on your aim) invest in this if it is as good as you believe.
