Has anyone here had any experience of being involved in or running a social enterprise?
I'm currently trying to raise £250,000 to buy the lease on an unused venue to turn it in to a 'Community Arena for Performing Arts'. I have some good Business Angel connections in Cambridge but as I am still at planning and proposal stages it would useful to discuss social enterprising with anyone who has a bit of know how!
The reason it would be a social enterprise is because it would be very much aimed at engaging the community more in the world of performing arts. This means promoters of live music through to community groups who need a performance space (on door share agreements so that no group ever suffers a loss no matter how few attend).
We'd also be looking at tapping into being a vocational base for training of young NEET's (not in Employment Education or Training) as well as being a major partner with the radio station I volunteer at providing a permanent base for live broadcast of performing arts on related shows (spoken word, open mic, live music, comedy etc).
