The asterixed method was the one I was personally referring to. The one so used by Brown and Berglas (and so many others.)

I guarantee, well almost, that taking what I have learnt from the style of Mentalism you like from your other posts, it wouldn't be for you.

Do whatever you think will work. Gaff your own envelopes. Psychologically force, using a forcing bag, use a group force...use your own wallet idea...anything!

Thanks Lenoir, I will :)

I can think of three ways to do what I want to do (with the animal thing):

1. P**-***w
2. Sw***i
3. I***x

I like the index the best, BUT I wish I could make the word bigger. In a perfect world I could tear back a banner which reads "she will say 'mouse'" or something, but I fear I don't know how I could do that - atleast not so quickly for an opener.

Your signature says 'magic is an art - protect it' and you write posts on keeping secrets secret and yet you blantantly reveal methods that can be googled.

Do what Iain did and use asterix's (pah grandma) ...

Appologise, I will asterix now. :P

EDIT:

OHHHH! I just worked out what Iain was talking about when he said "P**-***w" :D

(can't we have words like "sw***i" set to the same function we have as the word "f***"? It would automatically do it.)

If it's GOT to be a ready prediction, then you've got to get people to name only very common animals.

You can't instruct people to "name a mammal" because, frankly, most people don't understand what a mammal is, or what counts as one. A technical term like "mammal" will also start them thinking of more obscure species.

With a nod towards our own Tomo's Naked Mentalism, you could ask someone very quickly, out of the blue, to name an animal. This will force them to name something of very high probability (unless you're unlucky enough to pick the local zoo's coatimundi keeper). If they hesitate and ponder too much, you can dismiss them and pick someone else, saying you need to work with the instinctive subconscious mind.

But frankly, I think I prefer Iain's suggestion.

P**-***w is not an option, because this person is selected at random with a pingpong ball.

Well, yes, but that's your choice of the moment, not a law of the universe. As I've recently had re-hammered into my head from re-reading Story, creative decisions are made to be changed.

But we're heading round into that same old circular argument again, so I won't say more.

You could always p**-s**w somebody and then throw out a ping pong ball and get someone to pick a name out of a clear force bag. It seems fair then - and you get to use your ping pong ball! :D

It also makes sense to the p**-s***ed participant as earlier on you could say "I might use you" and they will have it make sense to them

But why do you have to use a ping pong ball - why make things too complicated? Just force it, or better yet, get them to write it down and find out the information. Have you ever seen Elliot Breslar's (I think that is his name) switchcraft? It is very good - all for your very own switching needs :D

To be honest for me it IS a law of the universe. I never use stooges or actors of any kind out of ethical issues (no offence to anyone who does), and I honestly don't know how to do proper p**-***w.

Don't dismiss p**-***w, you could get them to write the animal down, keep their answer in their pocket and have them unfold it after your reveal. Perhaps using some form of c****n impression (or any other method you can think of). It would carry more strength than a small index card pulled from your wallet. For a start it would be more impressive visually. You could then proceed in a similar way to what Anna suggested with the ping pong ball and force bag, thus keeping an element of randomness like you wanted. The possibilities are endless if you just allow your ideas to be flexible. :)
