Does anyone have any children between the ages of 5 and 10?

Postby Ant » Feb 8th, '10, 19:30

Nothing sinister... I promise!

I have somehow been roped in to DJ'ing at a children's school disco (don't ask) and although I have pretty much decided on a list of music I intend to play any of your children's favourites would be greatly appreciated in case I had not thought of them.

Is Hannah Montana and High School Musical still in?

I may end on Paul Glazby's remix of Pantera's F****** Hostile so they do not ask again but in the mean time I'd like to make sure the little kidlets have fun!

My daughter (7) loves Hannah Montana and has all three parts of High School Musical on her mp3-player.
My Son (10) starts puking when he is maltreated this way.

Have fun!

Yes, H$M and Hanna Montana are still in.

As is Camp Rock (which I always thought was a movie about Freddie Mercury).

My five-year-old likes Strike Anywhere, Muse and Rocket From The Crypt. but I don't think he really represents his demographic.

I believe the upper end of the 5-10 year age range can also be placated with anything X-Factor related.

I'm sure MagicDiscoMan will have a good first-hand insight into all of this.

I have 3 kids (6, 10 and 13). The two youngest like things like Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers and daft things from the X factor - like John and Edward

Haha, gratz!

There are certain lines I will not cross. The Jonas Brothers is one of those lines.

It's been quite difficult as I know what I hope my kids will like but second guessing other people's children is tricky.

Thanks for help/suggestions, keep 'em coming!

I don't know any children or have any comprehension of what sort of music is popular with the youth of today so my opinions are coming purely from a total and wilful ignorance of anything that might be useful to you but I'm sure that the best sort of music that will receive the most positive reaction from both the under tens and their parents is death metal. Either that or the theme to Bagpuss. They still have bagpuss on the telebox, don't they?

My daughter is a mature and wise (she thinks) six, and she loves Hannah Montana. It has replaced High School Musical. Abba is huge at that age.
My son has just hit eleven, but what does it for him, and did when he was in your target age, was the theme from Indiana Jones. Try getting themes from some popular films. Even instrumental themes. They will work for you.

I know no children at all, of any age, but I do watch an embarrassingly large amount of children's television.

You might do well to watch a few children's channels -- the chat show and game show type programmes aimed at the relevant age group -- and see what they seem to be into at the moment.

Possibly also wander down to the nearest record shop (or whatever they call them these days) and see what's on display.
