Reading past and future through smoke

Postby sindeey » Feb 10th, '10, 16:30

Hello. Just wondering whether any knowledgable people out there could help me. Years ago my friend and I met a guy who said he could read minds. We decided to put him to the test. He asked us both to leave the room, close the door and write down what we had on our minds at that specific time, then crush the paper up in our hands, go back into the room and hand him the crushed papers. So we did. Whilst we stood there, he lit the crushed papers, without opening them, and burned them. He read exactly what we had written on those pieces of paper through the smoke. So, shocked as we were, I decided to ask him where i had lived previously. Mind you, we had just met this guy 1 hour ago. He told me EXACTLY the full address, and this was WITHOUT doing the "smoke" thing. How can this be? I dont know a thing about magic, and am so dumbfounded.

I wouldn't be too concerned about your age....

There's only so much that real magic can achieve (and he probably reached his limit with the smoke reading/address revelation).

Yup, and it's not like you'd be disappointed if he turns out to be wrong. :D

Yes It's a trick.

A very simple trick , that i first learned out of a magic book when i was about 10 years old.

Possibly younger.

He was so wrong to do the age thing.

Please wipe that from your mind. Nobody can tell you that information. And i mean Nobody. :)

And we'd ask you what colour smoke you'd like as well!

Yup, like so many other things which seem to defy rational explanation, it's a trick and a very simple one at that  .

Hi Sindeey. I agree with everyone here, simple basic trick. The guy has really oversteped the mark though with the other nonsense. It sounds like youve been fretting over this for some time but there really is NOTHING to worry about. This sort of thing really gets my goat :x

Actually the stuff folks are complaining about here are covered by Herb Dewey in "King of the Cold Readers"

I would suggest that our young friend look up the author David Abbott... I believe most of his stuff is on line for free now days (not certain) but you will find him describing almost exactly the same scenario you have experienced (sadly, I can't remember the title of the book off hand, maybe Dale or one of the guys can tell you).

This post is testimony to how hard hitting something as simple as a well presented CT can be.
It just goes to show that 'good' mentalism is all presentation. 8)
