Recommended Books?

Postby bombbob » Feb 20th, '10, 01:49

Hey.

I am the kind of person who barely reads. I can never get into a novel - they just can't hold my attention.

However, I'm addicted to card magic, and I think this would be a good way to get into reading - with me about to start college, I need to get into the habit. Has anybody got any recommendations for books which I could have a look at? I've currently got Royal Road to Card Magic, and Street Magic by Paul Zenon. Would be great to find a book which not only teaches, but talks about card magic in greater detail.

I believe I've learned used my current books quite well, and I'm just looking for something to extend my collection.

Cheers.
Rob.

Expert card technique, I think it's by Jean Hugard and Frederick Braue.

I'd second this, and yes it is by Hugard and Braue. there's a section in this particular book on presentation which is invaluable!

Talking of presentation- nelms is essential. So that's two, but still they're great.

Also, pick up a copy of 'Strong Magic' by Darwin Ortiz. It's one of the best books on the presentation of close up magic and every close-up performer should have read it!

Expert at the card table is also a very good read, the sleights are usable in so many effects that you learn later on and the gambling moves can allow you to give great demonstrations of pure skill. (Which always boosts your confidence!)

Not to mention, an ability to cheat at card games, which is always nice. But my friends refuse to let me go anywhere near the deck in card games.. so.. good and bad.

Haha I have the same problem, I'm not even allowed to touch my cards when we play a game.
