book test for big stage show

Postby magiccmb » Feb 21st, '10, 01:43

you wheel on a big book shelf with ten shelfs about holding five hundred little known books
you say that all the books are so unknown so as not too influence the decision you select a spectatorthen put on a blindfold. they select one of the shelfs of the ten shelfs they then select another spectator this spectator picks any of the 50 books on the shelf he shows the audience he then selects a number and goes to that page he remembers the last word on the page then writes the shelf number, book number, tittle, page number and word on a large canvas brought on with the shelf at the start.
you remove the blindfold repeat the fairness of the decions made you ask the spectators name before he goes back to his/er seat you then turn the shelf around to show a white canvas with all the details on it as well as the spectators name!

Yeah great? So what now?

Go perform it?

I have a feeling you're going to ask if anyone would want to buy this effect if you sold it. Just a guess.

I don't relish the idea of lugging 500 books around with me from show to show.

These days, I'm more interested in what can fit in my pockets, when it comes to stage mentalism.

But that's just me.

all of that, and you ask for the last word on the page? too much to lug about as pc wells says...and, if you're controlling all the books, it'll work to your disadvantage to show all of them...its overproving that its nice and fair...

just give someone a choice of 3 or 5 and be done with it...

i take it you've never performed this too...

I use Slate of the Mind which uses three books and is ideal for stage work. It's a little pricey at around £100 but well worth it in my opinion.

Why drag around 1000 books when you could just as effectivley (more, becuase it's not controlled) use moabt.

On paper (or screen) it sounds impressive, having 50 books to choose from etc, but it seems completely impractical. Not only would you have to lug a ton of books around with you where ever you perform it but it's so overloaded with trying to make it fair that it loses (in my opinion) some of the magic because it would become quite confusing for the spectator - there are just so many things going off. Why make something so unnecessarily complicated? Remember that bigger doesn't always mean better!

Sounds a bit over drawn out. So from show to show you want us to bring a large book case with us and then go through the whole deal of blind folding ourselves and all.

I know a lot of Stage magicians would travel with lots of big props. But that's magic. Also the idea has been done and it's less of a hassle and way more portable. I think the effect is called "The World's Best Book Test" or something and it's just one single book.

I have the solution! Have them all scanned to a DVD and take that with you...actually, I may have to rethink that idea.....
