I had the same problem but after meeting Andy and asking him what you should do should this arise, he explained in more details how to do it. Read the instructions again and it suddenly becomes obvious!!

One of the methods Andy gives for getting round the one awkward number consists of interchanging the top two cards. You can do it quite openly and it doesn't get noticed, provided you don't show any guilt. Don't attach any importance to it and neither will the audience.

It also helps if you disregard the original advice and arrange the cards in non-numerical order. This gives you a good reason to sort through them all looking for whichever card is required. It works for me!

Also, when having to find that one card I find it helps to call the card values out as I check through the pile starting at the second one down, 'OK, let's see, we have a four, and a two and a six and a, oh yes, here it is .....' and place it nonchalantly in the required position. It all looks and sounds very innocent plus it gives me something to do and say so I'm not worrying too much that the specs will have seen that which they are not supposed to see. If you see what I mean!

Just got this last week & it is a great little effect.

I don't have any worries with the finding off the card. Like someone else said I don't keep them in any particular order & kinda have them tilted towards myself while I'm searching making sure the bottoms of the cards can't be seen.

I only have one prob with this & this is more a thing that is down to me & my sweaty hands.

Wonder if laminated cards can be used with other stuff, if anyone has tried & succeeded could you PM me?

Thought I'd update this topic as I still love this effect but have discovered a couple of minor irritations.

1. Taking the cards out of the case in front of a spec a couple of days back & they said, "Ooohh Kill" as they had clearly seen what was written on the bottom card. This raised a good point that I hadn't considered before, taking the cards from the case & then searching for the appropriate card the bottom of the cards does show, particularly as I'm trying to keep the cards tilted toward me for the certain reason.
I shall print up & laminate something to stick under these, shouldn't be a problem to discard it as I lay the cards out, as it will look irrelevant but wonder what others of you do to counteract this?

2. The gaff.
As said I tend to keep the cards tilted towards me as mine has kinda got dirty & more visible over time. Has anyone discovered a better gaff?

Personally, I don't worry too much about the top card; I am more concerned with not revealing the words. I've not had anyone call me on it.

As for problem 2, just replace the bit in question. The instructions explain how to do it.

Yeah I've never been called on this but it's something I have concern over & the less concern I have over the props the smoother it all goes.

And I'm really not happy with the bit in question thus why I keep the cards tilted up, which of course exposes the bottom card more than yourself by the sounds of it.

if you tip them out into your hand straight into mechanics grip, all should be concealed below. Then, shifting the other hand above into a kind of biddle grip helps shield also.

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh
