A powerfull gimmick?!

Postby Wmental » Jun 12th, '04, 22:47

Hi friends! :)

I would like know yours opinion about assistants in the mentalism magics.
Today we see in the explanations about magical devices : Very emphasize "Assistants not necessary ... the magician works alone..." and more.
Particularly I very liked use assistants in this magic style (mentalism).
I think that the assistants is “the most powerful gimmick” already invented in mentalism magics.
I am old in this area, and I not appreciate the technology here, but only the art of psychology.
Is my style.
I have studied and invented sufficiently variations with this powerful gimmick (assistants), and i had good resulted with “this”.
What yours opinion about this “science”? :)

Thanks

Mr Wesley

if i could afford an assistant i'd have one for sure, as a lone magician i can tell you, your working one handed if you get my drift.
your flow is intereupted as you have to exchange props and do your own loading / unloading.

in a mentalist scene an assistant provides that nesisary distraction for switches and climpses and the afectionate peck on the cheek allows plenty of scope for changes.
i recomend assistants over lone work any day.

Hi Wmental,

Great post and it's a good disscussion topic but I don't really think that the Reviews forum is the best place for it. Perhaps you would like to restart this discussion in a more appropriate forum for example, "Magician Talk" or "Support and Tips".

I got the impression Stooge myself, or an assistant for two person mindreading rather than just someone to hand you your props. If I did a stage act inclucing mentalism I might consider using an assistant of some variety, but I feel that it wouldn't work too well for supposedly impromptu stuff dor small groups. Having said that I do enjoy performing 'Black Magic' in a small group.

(I think Misc is the best place for this topic, Magician Talk is supposed to be for talk about magicians and no support is being sought)

Well, to spectators it seems a lot like pure witchcraft or warlockery or whatever, so I suppose moderately black might be about right?

Hi all.:)
My question about secret ajudants is really good..

For example:
At four months ago i make a mental magic in a store here.

Effect: I exit the room and three spectators chooses a diferent objects in a black bag.
Their hands outside the bag closed and dont show this objects choosed theirself or to another peoples.
In another room i pronunciate the objects choosed, wich a equivalent spectator.

But the real question is:

What’s the best?
1-You have a secret assistant to help you;
2-You buy a very expensive product (eletronic or equivalent) to make the same effect? (but work alone in this case)

We must emphasize that these alternatives would not make difference for the peoples, because they not know the secret in this two situations.

I like know yours opinion about this.

It's hard to answer the question without having key facts, such as exactly how attractive is the assistant?
